Local gun store is out of H110, so I was thinking of picking up some 2400 for my .44 mag.

Is it a small ball powder that measures well like W231 or AA #7? The meter from my powder measure like pouring water. Or is is a large fluffy powder with less consistent metering, like Unique or Green Dot?

If you have a different favorite powder for your basic 255 gr LSWC keith-type load, feel free to offer it up only so long as it meters well. If a powder doesn't meter well, I have less use for it.

Alliant #2400 runs fine through the Dillon RL-550B. You won't get quite as high velocity with it as you will H110 or 296, but it works well within its published loading limits. I like it for medium velocity loads in the .357 and .44 Magnums which have less recoil than full-power loads.

I use 11.0 grs. in the .357 Magnum with 160-gr. cast flatnosed, plainbase and 16.0 grs. in the .44 Magnum with 275-gr. cast flatnose, for about 1000 f.p.s. in a 4 inch revolver in either case. Do not exceed current published data from Alliant. Elmer Keith's and Skeeter Skeltons loads published in older maagzines and gun books are way to hot for today's powder.

I have a lee autodisk. It meters like water. I like it a lot for my full power 45colt loads in the ruger blackhawk. One of the discs throws a perfect 18.0gr(not according to lee) that i put under a 300gr LTC. Its one heck of a fun load to shoot.

Forgot to add thats a Missouri Bullet 300gr LTC, seated to bottom crimp groove.

Although 2400 is a stick type powder, it is the original "Short Cut" stick powder.

It meters like water.

works well in a uniflow. my dillon measure leaked a bit. next time i'm going to clean the powder die and funnel and the measure before i start next time. maybe that will help.

over all it meters well

I just tested 2400 in my dillon meter again . It works great if you give the handle a few taps at the bottom of the stroke. Then you dont get the slight dribble when you lower the ram
