I would rather vote for what is right and not get it than vote for what is wrong and get it.

Given the Republican penchant for fascism and the Democratic desire for socialism, I'll be voting libertarian.

I am a Libertarian, but I vote for the candidates that represent my views and the Libertarian candidates aren't always the best qualified.

I'm voting to send Uncle Don back to Congress because the D is a typical leftist twit and the 3rd parties are a little out there. Besides he really does fight for Alaska's sovereignty from the fed pukes who'd like to annex uis as a park.

We also have a critical gubernatorial race with a R newcomer against a POS, former 2-term, D, Klintoon toady governor that didn't quite flush us all the way down the turlet and would like return to use the plunger and finish the job.:fire: :barf: Then there is a former state rep running as an I.

Considering there is a gasline and other critical resource developement at stake, I'll probably be voting R, only because we have to stop the D at all costs.

I already voted early since I will be either in California or New Jersey on election day. I am a registered Libertarian and voted for a few of their candidates, but mainly because I would like them to get more votes than the R candidate in a district where the D candidate will certainly win. I would truly like to see a Constitutional Party or Libertarian candidate win. But, reality is that right now it will be between the Dems and Repubs. Fiscal conservatives have a better chance of pulling Republicans away from big spending than they have of pulling Democrats away from dreams of the hugely expensive nanny state. So I mainly vote against Democrats.

+1 vito, +1 tecumseh.

Too few people realize that when you vote for your democratic congress candidate, you are shifting the agenda over to Nancy Pelosi. It doesn't matter if your democratic congressman is only a Democrat because that's the only way to oppose a long-sitting republican opponent.

And tecumseh is right. Apathy invites hegemony. Voting for a small minority party may be futile, but not voting at all is one more vote your opposition doesn't have to overcome. Express an opinion, even if it's a minority opinion.

My districts are overwhelmingly conservative republican, and there have been times when I didn't bother to vote, because my view was safely winning. This year, they are safely winning, but I'm not taking any chances. It's too volatile, and I don't want to feel like a fool on 8 November.

The Bush Administration and the Republican controlled Congress have become a but stagnant, intimidated, and ineffective. I never insist that everyone I know should completely agree with my politics. But you are crazy if you think that Nancy Pelosi, Speaker of the House, and Harry Reid, Majority Leader, are a positive step towards protecting your right to keep and bear arms.

I will vote Republican just cuz, consistent with NRA support, in that maintaining a GOP majority trumps everything in this election.

I'm no longer a single issue voter after closely watching what has happened to our nation the last six years. We're on a runaway train, headed for a cliff and we need to put the brakes on somehow.
We need gridlock.

As follows:

4 Concerned Citizens (Constitution Party)
US Senate- Liberman and Lamont are anti's, and Schlesinger doesn't have a chance at winning so why not?
Governor- Rell and Destefano are anti's, and I don't like either on most other issues either.
Treasurer, and sec. of state. Why not. Also, on sec of state, D and R are in favor of questionable electronic voting systems.

Republicans for the rest, lesser of 2 evils.

As an FYI, I'm registered Republican, and generally fall towards the Right end of the party:)

I've already voted and used the NRA and Texas State Rifle Association ratings as a starting point and studied the major candidates pretty carefully. In Texas, we have a few Democrats who actually earn "A" ratings on RKBA issues--but I can't get away from the nagging feeling they could be brought into the Democrat "fold" on gun control issues by pressure from their "leadership." I've read stories of Pelosi bullying D's with threats and withholding campaign $. I am almost sure there will be a plank in the Democrat Party platform in 2008 that will call for more and stricter gun control. Wasn't it Barbara Boxer who wanted to confiscate any guns in the hands of civilians? Anyway, Rick Perry had a large hand in bringing Cabela's to our near neighborhood (in Buda), so that scored bigtime points for him.

I didn't see any yellow dogs in the poll.
I'm not sure I can participate in this poll without yellow dogs.

FWIW, several choices, such as "I will vote straight Democrat because I am voting against the Republicans" and "I will vote for anyone but a Republican" say essentially the same thing.

Without yellow dogs, some of us will simply vote against the party that calls us on the telephone the most.

Seriously, I don't discuss my voting, even anonymously. Doing so only encourages the pollsters and pre-election hype and histrionics.

I will vote straight Republican because they are the folks who would best represent me. The Dems simply don't have my values.

I worry about a repeat of the anti-gun clinton years. Most of the leaders of the house on the demo side are anti-gun so I take that into consideration. I want to keep the right to have my firearms without registration. I am not a one issue voter but will protect my gun rights at the polls.

A repeat of those years is what we are likely to get. The current climate is a lot like 1992, when gunowners decided to express their outrage with Bush I by sending a message, and they think it's safe to do so. I'll never forget the near tears in some eyes when they saw Clinton get elected.

It seems the mantra of "Clinton will never get elected" has been replaced by "there will be gridlock and that's good for us" or "the Dems remember 1994 and what being anti-gun cost them and they'll leave us alone."

Unfortunately, all three mantras were and are completely false.

What folks have to realize is that if you vote for that brand new Democrat to take the place of the Republican because you are mad at Bush you will be:

1. Electing a vote for the most leftist liberal ideology, the new Democrat is going to vote the Pelosi / Schumer /Reid party line because they are a new member of congress and in order to get the slop for their constituents they will have to scratch the other guys back.

2. Voting for the status quo or worse, because the Democrats arent going to do anything about, Iraq, we are stuck there like it or not for at least another 2 years, when it will become a presidential election issue.:barf:

3. You are also going to get a tax increase that you will feel and the economy will feel, in fact the Democrats would like top precipitate a recession becaue the republicans will look bad in the next presidential election and Hillary or Edwards or OBAMA WILL WIN.

4. There will be no social security reform, nor will there be a reduction in govt. spending, in fact it will increase dramatically.

5. The Patriot act and all the other WOT nonsense will now be in the hands of true socialist statists, look for a huge increase in the intrusiveness of the Federal Govt.

The Democrats have no idea how to fix any of our problems, so they will do more of what the Repubs have done on defense and security, along with all of their usual socialista agenda.

Room enough in GITMO for all the NRA members???:neener:

Regan Conservatives anybody?
I will vote Republican bacause they are the CLOSEST ones to what I believe.
Martin,
I am registered Republican, and nationally I like many of the Republicans. The fact of the matter, is that our Republicans in CT often out in left field, inline with the Democrats. If they were anything close to what I support, I would have no problem voting for them. I bet you noticed the same in NYC, Bloomberg himself is an ex-Democrat.

Guys, I know the type is small on these boards and it can be difficult to read, but I feel the need to request this again: "Please don't use this thread to bicker and spread a particular message or ideology, I'd rather it not get locked and there are already plenty of threads on those issues around here already."

Thanks for your understanding.

fellow Texans

Just to let you know, "Kinky" Friedman is anti-hunting and quoted as being such in The Daily Texan, Texas Monthly and Jewish News Weekly.
Just an interesting fact I didn't know until a couple weeks ago.

I don't beleive we are well represented from any angle.

But I will read the ballots and vote my conscience, I best hurry, huh. I will not be voting in more corruption if I can help it. Nor will I be voting for more tax and spend types if I can help it. Not many options when stated that way.

Usually, it means simply picking a lesser evil because anything with an R or a D these days usually means the status quo of lie, lie and deny. The status quo is becoming a very poor voting choice.

However, I will be conscious to vote pro-gun since the liberals really want all guns to be banished....for the children. I don't have children, so big deal.

Im voting straight republican ticket. The way i see it is that they are the most conservative party out there. And though i may not agree with everything a candidate believes, i believe it is more important to keep the most conservative party in power. After all, how often do you have a democrate that thinks more conservatively then the republican?

This is Illinois. Everyone with a D. behind his name that's up for me to vote for essentially wants me dead (which is how I view the gun rights issue).

Hold my nose and vote R., probably.

I will vote for anyone but a Democrat.

I've done it. The D. has to be gold, and the R. totally abhorrent, but's it's been known to happen.

I'll probably be all over the map with one exception, and that will be no Democrats. For Texas Governor, I'll be voting for Kinky Friedman. Even though he did not turn in his "test" regarding his stance on the 2A, he IS a strong SUPPORTER of 2A according to his website. I find much to agree with him on other issues and ideas for the state of Texas. As for the House and Senate, I'll forego my Libertarian stance this one time, and vote to keep the Democrats out of the two branches. We do NOT want Polesoi as speaker of the house, nor do we need any additional ammo for Klinkton and Kennedy. Other local offices will follow the Libertarian party.

buzz knox, master blaster, +10,000.

The Democrats don't care WHY you don't vote for republicans, as long as they can keep you mad long enough to take at least one, and hopefully BOTH houses. We know that picking a good candidate sucks. But the consequences will be SEVERE if Pelosi has two years to set the agenda.

I'm trying to say this in a non-inflammatory way; You don't have to fool all of the people all of the time, or some of the people some of the time, as long as you fool ENOUGH of the people at EXACTLY THE RIGHT TIME.

If you think she looks good on saturday night after a couple of beers, look again, because you're going to be stuck with her monday morning.

I will vote for anyone but a Democrat.

Closest to what I will be voting from the answers allowed in this poll.

I vote first according to the NRA's recommendations. The rest of the major votes are Republican just on principles. Two races I know for sure are 'gimmes' for the Dems and I'm voting Libertarian on those on principle alone to try to support the LIB party...

Biggest problem I have is the 10 or so issues attached to the ballot... mostly property tax special interest stuff.. too complicated for me to understand.
