In light of the recent world events, I think its worth discussing how you and perhaps your wife could defend your home against an armed gang that wants to break in and kill you. Lets assume you and your wife are home, no family members are outside, and your doors are locked at the time the attack begins. Obviously, considering that home designs are innumerable, it is impossible to discuss this specifically, but are there any generalities that can be considered?
I read a story of a husband and wife who put their kids in a safe room when the attack began, and then killed 7 invaders before they were killed. The kids were later rescued by other relatives. That couple did a pretty excellent job killing 7 invaders and saving their kids, but in the end they died.
There have been many threads discussing the pros and cons of handguns versus rifles for home defense, but an assault by a gang of invaders such as what has been reported in the news recently would certainly seem to be an example of a scenario where a rifle would be preferable, even inside the home.
