How young is too young?

Strictly based on physical and mental maturity. My son is a bit on the wild side still. He's going to have to wait, though he knows not to touch daddy's tools.

I also know some kids in their 30's I don't think have the maturity or common sense to handle firearms...
 
When you notice the child is actually starting to really listen to you and trying to follow established rules. Then they are ready to start learning. One thing though is to keep lessons short, sweet, and inject fun where ever possible. Don't tax their attention span.
