I just won an auction for my first revolver. It's a 686-5 6-inch. The ad says it's at about 95%, so hopefully it will be.

I am very familiar with semi-auto prices, but not revolver prices so much. It seemed like a pretty good price compared to many others I've seen. I wanted a shorter barrel, only because I generally like smaller guns, but I didn't want to pass this up.

Not the best pics, but they're the only ones I have so far. I paid $590 plus $30 for shipping, and these are the pics. Let me know what you think.

I like the circumstances. Not a steal but not bad for you either especially when down the road a bit you're talking about when you got it "back in the day" for under 600.:)

Fair deal, especially in the market right now.
Makes me miss my 586, even if it was only a 4".

If this feels anything like my 586, you'll never want to part with it and your kids will fight over it in the will.

I agree, not a killer deal but more than fair.

Hey, when you get it don't forget the range report. I know I really like shooting my 4" M686-2 and I'm sure you will like your M686 too...

S&W brought back both the 4" Model 586 and 6" Model 586 last year and I'm told they shoot very well.
They are just as beautiful as I remember them being and they are being sold with wooden Target Grips too...

The price was reasonable. We must remember the prices for revolvers have not changed recently but one sees much better selection in used display sections at local shops. People are dumping nice classics for plastic high-capacity stuff.

Thanks for all of the feedback, guys. I definitely appreciate it. And PabloJ, I actually did the opposite. I sold an AR and some high cap guns while the prices were high (because they were worth more to others than they were to myself) and tried to put money into things that hadn't gone up quite as much in price. But I do love my plastic high-caps, of course. I just want a little more diversity. It seemed like a bad price, if compared to prices a few years ago, but a little less than I have been able to find in the last couple of weeks or so, so I hoped it was decent at least, but I didn't know if the prices were high because of the recent price inclines or if it was a normal(ish) price.

I got the gun today and it looks amazing. I'd say 99% even (pretty much LNIB). And it was a 686 plus, which is what I really wanted. Only bad thing is that it's missing the rear sight elevation stud, but I'm sure S&W will send me one, and if not, it's only $5, so eh. I didn't know triggers could even be this good. The single action is the lightest trigger I've ever felt. It will definitely take a lot of getting used to.
