Shot my new Pedersoli Howdah Pistol today, but while cleaning it I notice two triangle gaps between the barrels at the breech hooks. I was able to insert the length of a pipe cleaner into them. I don't know if this is a defect or not, but it could be a rust problem if the water that will get in there from cleaning is not removed with a moisture displacer like WD-40.
Is this a defect in the gun, or are they all made that way? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You might want to check out the black powder subforum as there is an active Howdah thread there right now.

I believe you're referring to the empty space under the steel strap called a rib between the barrels. This can gather rust over time, and I had an old Kodiak where the rib started to peel off due to corrosion. I believe on a true double rifle or high end SXS shotgun this rib is what actually holds the barrels together. But this may not be the case on the pedersolis. I do not believe those barrels are regulated. The price is just too low. So I suspect they have welded the things together.

From Pedersoli about gaps between the barrels at the breech hooks.

Thank you for your inquiry and for the preference you had choosing one of our guns.

It is not a defect, the feature comes from the old English side by side shotguns, our Howdah has the same characteristics.

We have on the market more than 50,000 ML side by side shotguns and Kodiak Express and Howdah and this is the first time we hear of such worry.
There is no reason to worry.

If you don't get the water out it's going to rust!!! Don't worry you can't see it anyway.

Hy, if those gaps are not seen when the pistol is assembled, maybe you could clean them out well and then fill them with JB Weld to prevent entry of water in the future.

Just a thought... .
