Just curious; are any of the HR 1022 sponsors also members of the freshman 'but they're pro-RKBA' Democrats?

I had just received a response from my rep regarding my request to oppose HR 1022, and he agreed.

What makes this interesting is that he is listed as a co-sponsor

Dear *****:

I am writing to you today to voice my strong opposition to bill HR 1022 which has been submitted to your committee by representative McCarthy. As a life long gun owner and proud American, I cannot think of anything more destructive to our personal liberties than a bill such as this. Crime statistics show that only a tiny percentage of crime is committed using the weapons that this bill would ban. After the events of September 11th it is clear that we are vulnerable to terrorist attack and quite likely it will be civilians that must act to stop such an attack as the brave souls aboard flight 93 demonstrated. HR 1022 would strip from the American people the ability to fight back against those that would seek to destroy us. I cannot think of a greater insult to the courage of our brave fighting men and women or to those brave patriots aboard flight 93 than to allow a bill such as HR 1022 to pass which would take away the very freedoms that they have given their lives to
defend. I can only hope that you will show the same courage as they did by standing up for freedom and the liberties that make America the greatest country in the world.

With warm regards,

Robert Wexler
Member of Congress

Maybe I'm missing something?

Call him on it. Best yet, write an editorial quoting his letter AND his sponsor record -- that would make a good outing of him as a lier.

I don't understand what he would have to gain from being so directly contradictory. I could easily quote the undeniable hypocrisy and damage his political image; consequently, I'm almost tempted to say it was mistake, maybe someone signed up for him? :scrutiny:

Anyhow, I will follow up with him.

Bingo - this is what I'm fishing for. We were told that many of the freshman CongressCritters were pro-RKBA and would not vote to take away our (supposedly inalienable) rights.

So who's puttin' their money where their mouth is (was) and who's already proven to be a liar?

ETA: I ran the list; none are freshman.

I don't think this guys a friend of guns

* Voted NO on prohibiting product misuse lawsuits on gun manufacturers. (Oct 2005)
* Voted NO on prohibiting suing gunmakers & sellers for gun misuse. (Apr 2003)
* Voted NO on decreasing gun waiting period from 3 days to 1. (Jun 1999)
* Rated F by the NRA, indicating a pro-gun control voting record. (Dec 2003)

That letter sounds misrepresenting, it looks like thats a letter someone "wrote" to robert hexler. Reread it guys.

I noticed an awkward writing fashion as well. Looks as if he copy and pasted some letter and forwarded it back with a signature. Something fishy eh?

I'd have to agree with this.

There is a reference to YOUR COMMITTEE. Sounds to me like this was a constituent writing to a Congressman.

Then there's this:

I can only hope that you will show the same courage as they did by standing up for freedom and the liberties that make America the greatest country in the world.

This is the prose used by people writing TO reps.
