My unedited email to my congressman, late night mistakes and all :)

Mr. Waxman,

This is the first time that I have taken the time to write to you in all the years that I have been in your district. All abuse of government power concerns me, whether it be of illegal wiretaps, illegal search and seizures illegal wars.

I'm asking you please to consider cosponsoring H.R. 4900 because the BATFE, especially under Michael Sullivan, is plainly abusing their power to make criminals out of law abiding citizens. That was NOT the intent of congress when the ATF was originally created. It is neither productive nor fair for them to abuse their power like that. True the BATFE might have virtually unlimited funds to drive all gunsmiths and firearms dealers out of business, but they don't have unlimited man power.

Isn't the safety of the USA and all her people better served if they tracked down real criminals instead? How many Timothy Mc Veighs and Mohammad Attas are out there safe in the knowledge that the BATFE is wasting their very limited time and very limited man power on law abiding citizens rather the the real criminals?

Looking forward to hearing good news from you soon.

Sincerely a_b

His reply, almost 2 months later

Dear a_b:

Thank you for contacting me concerning H.R. 4900, the
"Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms (ATF), and Explosives
Reform and Firearms Modernization Act of 2007." I am glad to
have the benefit of your view.
As you know, H.R. 4900 would increase the burden of
proof and alter the penalties assessed for recordkeeping violations
by dealers, manufacturers and importers of firearms. The measure
is currently pending before the House Ways and Means Committee
and the House Judiciary Committee. I assure you that I will keep
your support for this measure in mind should it be considered on
the House floor.

With kind regards, I am

Sincerely,

Henry A. Waxman
Member of Congress.
