hs 6 alternative

Since Hodgdon lists a range of 5.0gr to 6.0gr Longshot under a 115gr LRN bullet if it were me I would start a little higher than 5.0gr. (but that's just a personal choice) I usually don't like using Longshot with lead bullets but others tell me they are fine with it. I usually use HS-6 with lead bullets in the 9mm and .38 Special +P.

I was reading up before loading and came across this thread. Why don't you like Longshot with lead?

HS-6 is one of my favorites but I couldn't find any so now I have 3 lbs of Longshot. I shoot a lot of 115gr FMJ and MBC 147s. Going to try it out today.

I am happy to see others also recommend SR4756. It is one of the unsung hero's out there of the powder world.

As a fall back Power Pistol would work but it is flashy compared to 4756.

Longshot seems to burn very hot, hotter than I like with lead bullets. Also, accuracy in the .38 Special +P isn't as good as with HS-6.
