So I'm thinking of creating website dedicated to the repeal of 922(o). It would be a site that somebody can go to to be educated on the law as well as NFA and state machine gun laws.

I was going to register repealhughes.org but somebody already got that and it's a link to the Hughes Repeal Facebook page.

I was thinking about hughesrepeal.org but I thought I'd ask fellow members their input.

Please post your ideas.

whatever you choose, cooperate with other organizations that share your goal. Website links are a good thing. Maybe someday this can happen.

What is your strategy for getting something like this off the ground?
What is the NRA & GOA position on machine guns?

What kind of site were you thinking about putting up? Forum? Petition? Static splash etc....? Would you use social media?

Anyone know how much money the NFA generates per year on average (our $200 tax)?

I like the idea of being able to own a new MG.

Get support from some big lobbying organizations like the NRA. That is how you make things happen in Washington.

The number of applications is steadily increasing which is making revenue increase as well, with the 105,373 applications received that is roughly $21,074,600.00 in revenue. Yes it is a small drop in the bucket for our government, but that is money coming in. I think small arms reviews Jan issue sad the Suppressor industry has grown 35 percent in the past 3 years alone, how many other industries can say that?

The NRA's position on anything Title II (Class 3) sways with the breeze, right now they are pushing hard for anything NFA related, mainly because the industry as a whole is exploding, those are potential new members, but it has not been that long ago they were against anything NFA because it was not considered sporting, not that long ago (1994) they said the evil black rifles that the average American has fallen in love with was not considered sporting either, but Remington puts some camouflage on a AR and its all ooh's and ahhh's.

If you want somebody to fight for your NFA rights look to http://www.nfatca.org/foundation.htm or http://americansilencerassociation.com/ these two organizations specialize in NFA causes, the ASA is even meeting with the ATF this week.

Is this an attempt to actually change the law or is this just a "I want a machine gun" attempt? The Hughes amendment does not prevent you from owning a machine gun, it only prevents you from owning a machine gun made in the year you want.

Thanks for your comments. Right now this website idea would be a place where one could get educated on the amendment and the ramifications of it today. It would also have a history of NFA as it relates to machine guns. That's just a start.

Long term I would like it to be like a grass roots forum that is linked via social network sites to get it repealed. Even format the site to be easily viewed on a tablet and smart phone.

It's still in an embryonic phase but I thought it would be a good idea.

In addition to the repeal of Hughes, I would add the repeal of the 1968 import ban in there as well, or, as I understand it, we'd be limited in the "new" machine guns we could own.

Hughes is a bad law because it kills competitiveness in the firearms industry. What has helped silencers grow in popularity is that new ones can be made and sold to the public. The same cannot be said about machine guns.

This is 100% correct. The civilian "fun" market is a great area to drop ideas and test out new things. It's probably better to find out that your newly market MG breaks after 2000 rounds at a machinegun shoot than in combat.

Also, I want a Glock Auto Sear. :D

Scroll thorough, 20 million in 2011 IIRC.

Interesting data. On page 14 I see 619 registered silencers in MN yet silencers are illegal to own in MN. Would it be a safe assumption these are registered to government agencies?

That's the working idea along with manufacturers too. One thing worth remembering is that flashbangs are DD, which explains the crazy number in CA.

I think tax revenue and ownership numbers are very helpful in arguing for Hughes to be repealed.
