I use hunt stand, I know others use on x, and I haven’t seen many threads like this. Do y’all have any recommendations or reasons that you like certain apps?

What I like about HuntStand is the stand reservation feature for when hunting in groups. Also, maps, but those are on most apps.

I've looked at some, but most wouldn't be useful where I do most of my hunting. I much prefer to just use my Garmin GPS with downloaded maps. If I have cell service I will often use Google Earth.

I volunteer with a SAR team and for the last few years we have been using an app called CalTopo. It's basically an easy to use GPS on your phone and I find myself using it for hunting if there is cell service. Where it comes in useful for a search team is that the search coordinator can create a QR code that each person scans into their phone. Once done everyone can see where everyone else is located in real time. Maps can be saved to document which areas have been searched and where more searching is needed. I can see where that could be useful for a group of hunters on the same lease.

If there is no cell service it will still track where you've been, but nothing will show up on your phone until you get back to an area with service. There are lots of remote places where I hunt that don't have cell service. That's why I still prefer my GPS to any of the Apps.

I use OnX.
I recently upgraded to the “elite” membership, mostly because they had a sale.
I‘m used to the app and for the most part like it okay enough.
I probably wont have to worry about not getting service as does Jmr40 because I’m not that remote.
I know I can go into airplane mode with my phone and it still tracks and such. You can also download maps of an area if you intend to go off line.
They just added recent imagery, which gives you the ability to see and area in real time. I believe it’s about 2-3 weeks from when you’re looking at it. That’s nice to be able to see new cut overs etc…
I like also that it has private land and boundaries.
What I don’t like about OnX is they more or less force you into getting the higher subscription if you want all the bells and whistles.
to be honest, I’ve been looking into Spartan Forge. From my research they’re a couple years away from seeing their potential.
At that time I may make a switch. We’ll see, but for now OnX works for me.

Off roading in my Jeep, I use a paid subscription to Gaia GPS as it shows more details than OnX.
I also have OnX Off Road and used that to hunt some property I was unfamiliar with. OnX shows private land - lot lines which is very handy. Gaia now has that function as well.

Thanks for the replies. I’ll look into some of those, even though I like what I have now.

OnX, maps and app is a great product. If you use the guys name HUSH you save 20% off.
