I'm just curious. I'm on a project in the Okmulgee, Okfuska, Creek counties area and wondering what goes on. We saw a nice doe this morning while out driving to a location and have seen lots of turkey in the area. We also ran into a couple guys going out to call coyotes about a month ago. So, if there is anybody out there who is familiar with the area, what critters are around? When are the seasons? As the area seems pretty densely populated, are there restrictions on rifles? The woods here are really dense, what do you hunt with? I could look some of this up on the interwebs, but this is more fun. Please share any stories.

We have deer (some very large deer), bear, elk, feral hogs, a ridiculous amount of turkeys (eastern, rio), quail (some), ducks, geese, and woodcock. There is a TON of public land in Eastern Oklahoma. Some very dense woods and brush. Some fields. Depends on location. And then there are the lakes. So many good fishing opportunities. Bluegill, crappie, sandbass (white bass to the yanks), hybrid (wipers to the Yanks), stripers, smallmouth, largemouth, mean mouth, Kentuckys (spotted bass), channel, blue, and flathead catfish, pickerel, walleye, sauger, saugeye. And all of them in very good numbers and size.

There are some restrictions on rifles in some locations. But not really that many. Mainly areas close to towns. Those are usually shotgun with pellet and bow only. But there's so much public land not close to towns where one can use a rifle. Oklahoma, Eastern Oklahoma specifically, is truly a hunters paradise.

Sorry I left something out.... what I use. Primarily I'm a bow hunter. Especially for deer. But pigs get the special treatment. Marlin 44 mag, Marlin 444, Marlin 45-70. But you'll see everything from an AR-15 to 338 WinMag in our woods. However the 270, '06 and 7 Mag seem to be the most prevalent. Our woods seem thick. And some are very dense. But many places, even in woods, you can easily shoot 200+ yards through the trees.

Best direction I could point you (And I hate to spoil your fun lol) is here

But BigBore hit the nail on the head. Eastern Oklahoma is lush and very plentiful in wildlife. Oklahoma is really a strange state with the difference in vegetation and landscape from one acre to the next. It's pretty common (in my experience) to push through thick brush to come to a completely open field many acres wide and long.

One thing you may like is that hunting pigs is a year round affair with no bag limits. Although, there are restrictions on hunting pigs on public lands during certain hunting seasons. I can't quote them, so reading up on them is your best bet there. Oklahoma Department of Wildlife has an app you can download as well that gives you a breakdown of every season and the restrictions and limits etc... as well as showing you info on different wildlife management areas.
