My parent are moving to Mass this year, in fact my stepfather is already there. When I talk to him he is constantly talking about how good the hunting is supposed to be there and how many deer he has seen in the last week.

I will be going up there to visit them this fall and was wondering how hard is it for a nonresidents to hunt in Mass? Are there public lands that I could go to? Also could I use my M1A?

Here's the MA hunting and fishing abstracts.

They don't mention firearms much, except that there is a specific shotgun and muzzleloading season for deer. You can use a .22 for small game. All deer harvested last year were by either via archery, shottie, or muzzleloader (or car :p) so my guess is no M1A. :(

LOTS of deer...and due to the overpopulation, I've noticed more acceptance of hunting as a viable control. For the first time ever, I was approached by a non-hunter wanting me to hunt her land to reduce the herd.

Lots of deer most landowners and farmers will let you hunt only using a bow with no problem. But if you use a shotgun they will only let you if they know you. Deer are a big problem eating crops in southeastern Mass.

Thanks for the info Jamz,

Mass. should take the rifle away from the Minute Man on the back of their State Quarter. You have some strict laws.
