Took my 686 out with 150 rounds of HSM .357 ammo. One hundred rounds of 158 grain JHP, which was very mild (probably only doing 1,150 fps, if I had to guess) and some 180 grain "bear loads" ( ) that had a little more oomph.

Problem was, one cylinder full of the the 180 grain loads had real sticky ejection. This tells me that one round in the cylinder was way over pressure.

HSM is "factory reloaded" ammunition, and is inexpensive. Anybody else have good or bad experiences with it?

HSM is not "factory reloaded". It is brand-new ammo made in Montana. Cheaper compared to what? It is about the same price as the PMC that is made in South Korea. I like their 240 gr JHP 44M. Take a look at the brass, mine all look brand new. And it's definitely cleaner than PMC.

I paid $8.00 a box for the 158 grain JHP. Compare that to $11.99 for the next leading brand at the local gunshop.

I've heard that it was factory reloaded. The fact that all of the brass isn't the same color/type kind of reinforced that belief.

Now, the 180 grain "bear stuff" is probably new, but the 158 grainers are packed loose in 50-rd boxes and have multi-colored brass.

HSM does sell reloaded ammo as well as factory fresh. They have different grades and prices on their ammo. I've bought excellent 30-06 new factory ammo and 45ACP range ammo reloads, and was satisfied with the reliability, quality and accuracy of both. More recently. I have been buying from Wisconsin Cartridge Company, and their factory loaded stuff in the calibers I use is even superior in price quality and accuracy to HSM. So now I go with them. Their 41mag ammo is my favorite.

HSM ammo IS factory remanufactured the same as Ultramax Ammmo made in South Dakota. In my 50 round box of HSM .38special you will see Winchester, Federal, R.P., W-W, PMC, Speer, Peters, G.F.L., stamped on the end of the shells. Plus some of the shells are silver coated. This ammo I purchased in bulk through Cabelas. I’ve shot hundreds of rounds of HSM and Ultramax in .357 and .38sp and never had a FTF.

Not sure where your local gun shop got the loosely packed ammo from. The ones that I bought (and the .38 spl and .357 mag) are all packed as shown in the attached picture. All brass are new and headstamped HSM. I got this from a local gun show and the .38 and .357 always go fast.

HSM sells BOTH factory NEW ammo and RELOADS. They are out of Stevensville,MT.I have bought cases of stuff from them, and have called them often for price quotes. Geez...For those of you who buy from Cabelas, you might try going directly to the manufacturer to GET the facts as well as a better deal.

I have several boxes of HSM .357 range ammo. The only problem I ever had was some really bad lead fouling in the barrel. Took a month of Sundays to clean with Hopes lead solvent.

Side note, I have the loose packed rounds, about half a case left, they are reloads, mixed brass and nickle cases. I will post pic when I get home.
