North zone Texas dove season. My old buddy from college has a farm up north of Waco, town called "West", south of Abott, home of Willy Nelson. Anyway, he says there's lots of birds and they've been dry and the tank on his dad's farm still has water. Actually, he dad has two tanks, but I'm figurin' the big one is the one with water. Anyway, he also says they have lots of coyotes and we're going to do some night hunting for 'em. This is going to be a fun get together. I'm going to take a sporterized SKS for the night hunting, figure the shots will be short since we're night hunting. I have a ton of surplus ammo for that rifle, too. Should be a lot of fun. I reckon I'll pay him back with a deer hunt down on my place later in the year for yet another get together. He shot a spike down there one year, the year I bought the place. You'd have thought it was a twelve pointer. He don't get to hunt deer much.
I haven't hunted up there with him in years. Sad thing is, he says the bird population has exploded and that they aren't all that hunter wise due to the fact that, in his words, kids don't hunt 'em like they did when we were young. Sad, if so, that hunting is becoming a smaller tradition. This is not good, IMHO.
