Dad is the one who taught me the ropes of both gunhandling and hunting. The last year or two his knees have been better than the fifteen years previous and we started hunting together again. Small game and birds once in a while.
So last year I suggested we take up deer hunting together again and he agreed. Then I suggested we try muzzleloading (I'm a known addict) and he agreed. We went out shooting a few times, I modified the sights on one of my .50 rifles so he could see it better and he's gotten to the point that any deer within seventy yards or so will wish he'd kept his distance. Offhand, I might add. The Old Man is getting some of his knack back.
Anyhow, we leave Sunday evening, the 14th, for Salt Fork here in Ohio. There's an early muzzleloader season and we've got everything lined up. I enjoy hunting, even solo, but it makes it kinda cool when i can take my son squirrel hunting (he's 8) and then go deer hunting with my Dad, too. Won't be too many more years and we'll be able to )hopefully, if his knees hold out) that we'll have another three generation hunting together. Used to be me, Dad and my Grandpa who passed in 2000.
Wish us well. We're not the photogenic types, but I'm sure there'll be stories to tell and hopefully some meat to hang.
Since this is a gun forum, we're both shooting a PRB. Him through a T/C Pa. Hunter over 80gr of Goex and me from a CVA Hawken (old one with a slow twist) over 70Gr of Goex.
About the sight modification; He looked at it and said he could see it fine. He liked the brightly colored dot where the dark front post used to be. Then he looked closer and said "Is that what I think it is?" Yep. I JB Welded a stick pin on top of the front sight post.
