I went out to zero my new rifle today, a LAR 50 Big Boar. Shot it out of the back of my Blazer (making sure the break was well out of the vehicle) so I wouldn't have to lay in the mud. How was it you ask? In a word, unfrigginbelievable! I managed to put 20 rounds down range but now I could use some serious work by a chiropractor. Seriously.

Here are some tips for anyone getting a 50:

You MUST make sure your position is correct. If you dont it will not let you get away with it. Everytime I was out of position even a little it was as if my daughter jumped on my back between my shoulder blades and my lower back. I had a serious headache all afternoon.

Get elbow pads. Unless you are a big guy, it WILL move you back a bit. I weigh 180lbs and it moved me about 4 inches each shot.

Make sure you are READY to fire and have the gun into your shoulder very tightly before even approaching the trigger.

In short it was like being in a car wreck every time I pulled the trigger. I have never fired a weapon quite like it that was not on a tripod or mounted to my Hummer. It is considerably more stout in its recoil than the Barret M82. I dont know how people shoot those things for long periods of time. I am really disapointed that I waited this long to get one. I still have 80 rounds left and will be going to get match ammo and back out to the range on Friday for some more fun. I am now officially a junkie and I am quite affraid where this will lead for me. Maybe an M2 to keep it company.....

Gee...but the advertisement for the rifle says...
Very low recoil, Like a 12 GA Shotgun

That thing must be a brute. You wouldn't figure it would recoil that much at 30.5 lbs.

But then it could be position. The only time my FAL hurt me was shooting it prone with the bipod. OUCH!

Got a scar over my right eyebrow...

From my Maadi-Griffin .50 bullpup. Scope had 4" of eye relief. Wasn't enough that day.

Gewehr98 - that scar you bear over your right eye would mark you out as a Confederate Whitworth sharpshooter. A lot of those guys got black eyes from firing that gun. Wear it with pride.

Well, it does recoil like a shotgun. If you are shooting 3" magnum slugs. The recoil it's self isn't that bad. It is a giant shove to the rear and the compression of your body that does me in. My body feels like it has been thru a real workout today. Imagine laying on the ground and having a friend put his boot about 2 inches from your shoulder, leg cocked and pushing you to the rear. Thats what it is like.

I figure by the time I get up to about 500 rounds I wont even notice it anymore. It did get slightly easier as the day went on, then again my body could have been going numb from the shock of it all. I bet I wont flinch or jeck on my 223's and 308s anymore!

Hey red, at just over 35lb, shooting it prone is the only choice I have! I cant imagine what it would do from the offhand! Ever see that video of the little arab shooting the 577 T-Rex? Anyone have those links?????

I have cheerfully fired multiple mags through a Barrett M-82.

I fired one round through a Grizzly, and thanked the man nicely. The fact that the chamber was right under my ear and the breechblock doubled as the buttplate created a subconscious little girlie fear in me that did nothing for properly pulling the stock in tight...

Those 50 cals are cool, Didnt Grizzly make a 50BMG pistol imagine shooting that thing.
I've seen a .50 BMG pistol at a gun show one time. Heavy beast, but nowhere near heavy enough to get me to want to fire it. They had a stock attachment to turn it into a short barreled rifle and (I kid you not) had a suppressor for it.
:scrutiny:
Makes me wonder about some people.
(was kind of neat to look at, though.)
The seller told me that he'd never shot it (surprise), but was trying to get someone to handload a few mild rounds for it. I moved on to checking out his suppressed Ruger Mk II ... something I would enjoy shooting.

I'm supposed to go shoot Pyle's beast Friday afternoon. :) I'm pretty pumped.

Hmmm... Kind of surprised you had those kind of effects with a 35 lb gun. My Barrett M99 is a pleasure to shoot (Yep, Tamara even tough its a bull-pup ;) ), I've fired as many as 75 rounds in one shooting session. Ended up with a bit of a headache, but no recoil problems. Maybe it needs a better muzzle brake?

I've shot quite a few rounds through the Barrett 99 and 82A1. The 99 kind of hurt my head to shoot a bit but the 82A1 is a real pussycat. Neither one would do much to your shoulder. Tons of fun.

Get yourself one of those dolly type things that mechanics lay on to roll underneath a car.....and bungee cord it to the tailgate on your blazer :neener:

Do you manufature those yourself or do you contract labor out to Arkansas? :D

Depends on how experienced you are with duck tape an balin wire....have to get them bungee straps anchored just right.

I s'pose I could start my own production line of "shootin sleds"

Start off with the standard model suitable for pickup beds and concrete floors at the range.

Next step up in the line up is the big game squasher, all the great features of the basic model only its got big mud tires, and tent stakes to anchor your bungee straps to....camo costs extra.

An then the top of the line street sweeper model (only available in tactical black) with GPS, self lubed needle bearings, racin tires and a high output electric propulsion system fer absolute silent stalkin. Programable brakes for absorbin recoil, an a complimentary splatte gaurd fer when the S### hits the fan

:D

Good Greif..you need to move down here to NW FL where I live.

Just last week I had to go to an "Open Trailer" my Sis in Law was doing out of politeness.:D

I have a hard time with heavy recoil in the prone position. An upright position is much better for handling recoil.

When you are upright, your shoulder can turn "side to side" and your whole upper body can move with the recoil.

When you are prone, your shoulder moves "up and down" and has to deal with the forces all by itself.

You shoulder was designed to move "side to side", not "up and down". So it will prolly be more comfortable to shoot in a more upright position. I guess that means a fairly upright bench, cuz I doubt you'll be shooting it offhand.

I was wondering if he still had all his fillings.

I found shooting a Barrett semi fun, but I'm leery of "The Beast"

Yee Haw. I'm going this afternoon. Pyle, I'll see you a bit after 3:00. (we have to look at a house in your neck of the woods at 2:30).

If I can shoot is standing up, should we get some video?

We will get some video. The Col and I have the range reserved for 1200, but I am sure we will have to bump that back a bit anyway. We are going by TTI and wheel and deal (You wont believe this deal:D ) then I have some prep work for this weekends drill. So be there as soon as you can(my house).

You can shoot it offhand, but if you drop it you will owe me at least 50 push-ups! At the least!:p

Dang! I wished I were up there. I'd take the challenge. But this would be the deal. I don't drop it and you owe me 50! :D
