I went out to zero my new rifle today, a LAR 50 Big Boar. Shot it out of the back of my Blazer (making sure the break was well out of the vehicle) so I wouldn't have to lay in the mud. How was it you ask? In a word, unfrigginbelievable! I managed to put 20 rounds down range but now I could use some serious work by a chiropractor. Seriously.
Here are some tips for anyone getting a 50:
You MUST make sure your position is correct. If you dont it will not let you get away with it. Everytime I was out of position even a little it was as if my daughter jumped on my back between my shoulder blades and my lower back. I had a serious headache all afternoon.
Get elbow pads. Unless you are a big guy, it WILL move you back a bit. I weigh 180lbs and it moved me about 4 inches each shot.
Make sure you are READY to fire and have the gun into your shoulder very tightly before even approaching the trigger.
In short it was like being in a car wreck every time I pulled the trigger. I have never fired a weapon quite like it that was not on a tripod or mounted to my Hummer. It is considerably more stout in its recoil than the Barret M82. I dont know how people shoot those things for long periods of time. I am really disapointed that I waited this long to get one. I still have 80 rounds left and will be going to get match ammo and back out to the range on Friday for some more fun. I am now officially a junkie and I am quite affraid where this will lead for me. Maybe an M2 to keep it company.....
