Well I just got my Colt Government XSE back from Colts repair shop and just looking it over it looks beautiful!
Here is what the problem was:
The thumb safety broke right at the pivot point, that was the first problem. I found this small little shop in my area that this old timer runs, and he has is tens of thousands of 1911 parts, just file drawers filled with parts up to the brim. Anyhoo I had him fit an old style GI safety to it.
Also the last round on both magazine would fail to feed properly
Then the rear site just wouldn't stay in one place, I tightened the screw as hard as I dared, even used some blue lock-tite. However once I started putting rounds through the gun, the lock-tite would heat up and the rear site would start coming out of the grooves, so I just dealt with that.
Then one day I went to shoot the gun, and it wouldn't fire. I had to pull the hammer back manually and pull the trigger on a round three times before the round would go off. I tried several different rounds thinking I had a hard primer, just wasnt so.
Well I dont make a lot of money so I put it in its case for a later date when I could afford to send it in to the manufacturer for warranty repair. I waited way too long, I really dont know why I waited so long...
Well it sat in its case for 2 years, and when I opened up the case the thing was full of rust. The slide, the grip safety were covered. I tried to use some solvent and what not, but it still wouldn't come off all the way.
So I sent it into Colt, I sent them a letter along with pictures of my situation and also asked to be quoted on a refinish.
When I got the Repair Order in the mail it stated:
Repair Loose Rear Sight
Fails to feed last round both magazines
Replace firing pin
Replace Ambi Safety
Polish Throat
Tighten Trigger
Replace Grip Safety
Refinish Receiver
Adj. to Fac. Specs test for function & ACC
"NO CHARGE"
When I got my gun back today there was a handwritten note on the repair order that came with my returned gun:
Replace Rear Sight (They replaced it with real novak's rear site)
AdJ Extractor
Polish Feed Ramp
Polish Rec
Polish Breech Face
Oh and they also blued the sides of the hammer, originally it was bare metal on the sides and blue on the out surface, I like the sides blued.
It took them 2 months to the day to get this firearm back to me; however I don't care im just so happy I got my baby back !
