Hello, & thanks for looking. First a little history, about 4 years ago I bought a used Steyr M40 pistol, and really liked it, but about a year or more later it broke. The trigger would not reset, so I had to send it in for repair. Steyr repaired the broken drop safety bar and I got it back in a timely manner, (about 2-3 weeks) and my M40 shoots good as before. But there is the difference in the way my pistol operates than before, and I would like to know is this normal, so here's my question; When you dry-fire the Steyr M series pistol, is it normal to have to hold the trigger back in order to pull the slide back to be able to dry-fire again? The reason I ask is that I didn't have to do that before I sent it in for the repair. Otherwise, when I'm shooting live ammunition, the pistol functions like any other pistol I have. Thanks for your replies in advance. LM

So, if you dryfire and then take your finger off the trigger, you can't retract the slide?

Never heard of that with any auto pistol.

I have an M40-A1, never heard of any semi auto that required touching the trigger in anyway to operate the slide.
