Hi all- sorry that these threads come up so much, and i'm contributing to it, but i wanted the board's opinion.

I'm looking for a 270 win rifle w/ wood stock in the 600 dollar range.

caliber and wood furniture are currently non-negotiables, though i'm open to different types of actions. the only requirement is it must be capable of holding more than 1 round, (ergo no break actions)

this rifle will be for hunting, and optics need not be included

my friend's father asked me to find him a rifle that fit these requirements, and alls i could think of was a nice savage bolt action or a remington 700. i was kinda hoping you guys and gals could offer me a fresh perspective and recommend some things i haven't thought about. i'm not particularly well informed on good hunting rifles.

thanks!

mike

CZ 550. Best for the money with more factory goodies. The biggest of which IMO is a set trigger. They shoot very nice and are typically very accurate.

Savage does make a nice rifle (I have a Savage 10FP,.308) - but, their Quality Control is sometimes lacking.
The CZ550 is a good choice also, great fit & finish. Take a look at the Remington 798. This is a Chekoslavian made (Zastava) Mauser action with a US made, laminate wood, Monte Carlo stock. The 798 has an excellent write-up (Editors Best Buy) in the new Sports Afield magazine. I'm seriously considering one in .243.
