In my 30 + years carrying a handgun I've owned belts from many makers. I have 1.5" gunbelts ranging from Wilderness 5 stitch Frequent Flyer through Milt Sparks 1B to a bespoke full rayskin gunbelt.
However, until now, I had never found a "sweet spot" of quality, service and price as I did Purchasing from A Better Belt U.S.A. a company run by Mike and Tracy Pillsbury http://www.abetterbeltusa.com/.
As for bona fides: this is the belt company linked to from the Garrett Industries site http://www.giholsters.com/ that provides gunbelts to Garrett. The level of quality and attention to detail of Garrett's products is mirrored at A Better Belt U.S.A.
I purchased one of their "Perfect Fit Belts". An interesting (and new to me) idea of making a gunbelt out of 3 articulated pieces of leather. I wanted it in premium horsehide with a bullhide core and natural horsehide liner (not a stock choice for this belt type although they offer that laminate in other belt styles)
When I emailed them for price and availability I heard back from Tracy in just a few hrs. that they would be happy to make it for me and that the price would be the same as the standard bullhide.
My custom order belt arrived Priority Mail in less than 2 weeks! It was carefully packaged and completely sheathed in bubble wrap. Included was a letter of appreciation from the maker, a page on how to best care for the belt, a tube of threadlocker and an extra Chicago screw in case you loose one.
But, there's more! Mike & Tracy offer an active / retired military and LEO discount and if that's not nice enough, they are located in Houston TX.
Having worn a Perfect Fit for about a month now I can say that from day one this is without a doubt the most comfortable belt I have ever worn. Out of the Box it's more comfortable than belts that were broken in for years. Yes, my other belts were comfortable or at least I thought they were but this takes comfort to a whole new level.
I'm attaching 2 pictures of this work of art but they don't do it justice. The stitching is dead straight, dyeing blending and radius of the edge is perfect. and the leather is gorgeous.
I urge any THR members who are in the market for a gunbelt, or just want to learn more about these belts, to visit Mike & Tracy's website and read about their products, (they offer regular belts as well as the type I ordered).
