I was browsing the gun cabinet at Academy and saw the PT-740. It felt great in my hand and the trigger was light enough for me (Ironically I have trigger finger). The take-up was kinda long but not as bad as the LCP, ended up buying it for $379.

I took it straight to the range and put 50 rounds through it, would have done more if I didn't have to pick up the kids. It felt good and shot pretty well, point shooting is really easy with it. I have to say my only complaint is I just plain don't like the safety. It feels cheap and it's not something I trust but I would never carry with the safety on anyway. Recoil is rather snappy but not as bad as a Glock 27. Overall, I like it!

Well thats $379 you will never see again! lol
J/K I actually like Taurus.
It would seem to me a harsh little gun to shoot .40's out of tho.

I need a pocket mouse gun myself and been looking at several and the 709 was one i was thinking of. I still am, But the 740 does give me ideas since i use an XD SC .40 as my small main carry now and have a bunch of .40 ammo.

BTW ive owned 2 Taurus's and both were great.

I have the 709. Love it. Taurus really has come a long way from making budget stuff to coming out with leading edge designs, like their weird SA/DA (not DA/SA) trigger in all their new striker pistols that's great once you get used to it. Once you get used to taking up the slack and staging it, and learn how short the reset is, you can really shoot that little thing well.

I can't speak for the 740, but I can say that the 709, fired back to back with a PF-9, handles recoil much MUCH better.

Enjoy! My 709 makes me want to try out one of the new 24/7 G2's once they're readily available.

DasFriek, one thing to consider. While the 709/740 are pocketable (my 709 is usually pocket carried), the Kahr PM40 is noticeably smaller, and will no doubt fit in a larger variety of pockets. Of course, it's also a lot more expensive.

Warhawk, on field stripping, Taurus doesn't tell you this, but by far the easiest way is to rack the slide and release to cock the striker, pull the slide back a bit, hold down the takedown tabs, release the slide, THEN dry fire. If you don't dry fire, you have to practically rip the damn slide off the frame. If you do the dry fire, it comes off as easy as anything.

No idea why that's not in the manual.

I dont think id have an issue with the size of the 709/740 as i back pocket carried a PPS 9mm the same way and it is larger from what i could tell as i didn't put them side by side at the shop. As i said i need a pocket gun which i rarely would use it i do have a need every so often i need something small i can throw in a pocket and not worry about holstering up one of my main rigs.
But im gonna have a hard time deciding this one as i can go with a .380 as well as a 9mm.
Id like to skip the 740 as id like to be able to buy cheaper 9mm ammo and good ammo is easy to find cheaply.
Im aiming for Christmas to purchase it as i usually get a nice cash gift from my folks that when i add my own money into it i could afford a PM9.
But my list is this: TCP738,PT709, Sig P238,Diamondback .380 is questionable and the PM9. There is a mix of high quality low cost guns and some high priced quality guns there so i have lots of options.

I know id like to shoot a PT740 as i owned a PT745 wich is a single stack PT145 and that gun was a monster to hold onto compared to my PT1911. I find my XD SC .40 easier to control recoil with but its stall much harder to get back on target compared to the 1911 which i carry 80% of the year. So i just need practice with the .40 is all as i have gotten better over time.
I just dont want another .40 as the price of it is almost as high as .45acp anymore.
So id buy a PM45 over a PM40 for that reason alone.

I don't see a problem pocket carrying the 709 or 740 with the safety off. The single action pull is not all that light and short. As long as it's in a holster that protects the trigger there should be no problem.

I really like my 709. It's a little too big to be a pocket gun, but it makes a great IWB gun. It's my back up CC to my glock 26.
