First off, yes, I have used the search function and read nearly every thread, and am currently a member at Glocktalk, CZUSA Message Board, and XDTalk.

For about 3 months now, I have been trying to decide between the Springfield XD-9, GLOCK 17, and CZ-75B; and I CAN'T MAKE A DECISION.

Seems like every few days, my decisions changes. One day, it's the 17, next day, the XD, and so on. I have an OCD like habit of habitually researching the hell out of ANYTHING before I buy it; however in the case of guns this can be a bad thing. Each of these pistols have their avid followers; each of which believe their gun to be the best.

So, the question is, which would you go for and WHY most importantly. I cannot express to you enough how much I have looked into this topic, but I am a very indecisive individual. Please no biases, and I am mainly hoping to hear from people who have shot all these models. I currently like them all, but I just know that when I put the money down for one, I will be kicking myself for not getting the other no matter what I choose. :uhoh:

This will be a 100% range/comp gun. I don't plan to carry.
 
You listed 3 very good pistols. Whatever you chose, you won't make a bad choice.

If possible, go shoot (or at least handle) all 3 pistols and buy the one that fits your hand best.
 
This wont be much help but I do the same thing on the research bit. When I went to buy my second handgun i was convinced i wanted a glock. My resasoning was all based on pictures and reading articles, forums ect. I went to the gun shop with the money and intention of buying a glock, but once i got one in my hand I instantly fell out of love with it, cant explain it but it just didnt feel right. I also tried the xd9 and liked it, but not enough to buy. I walked out with a taurus millenium pro, and saved almost 2 bills. This is a great carry piece, but wouldnt recomend it if youre focus is targets. Anyway my input is go get them in youre hand and see which one calls youre name. Youre right though, either one you pick, part of you will prob still want the other. Do what im doing, get one, save and get the other!! My list of wanted guns grows by the day, and I got my first about 6 months ago, now I have 3 and working on #4, all semiauto handguns. I wont even start on holsters:banghead:
 
I appreciate the replies guys. I was going to post this on one of the gun specific boards, but after reading an XD vs. GLOCK thread over at Glocktalk, I'll pass on that one.
 
CZ-75 is a good range gun. It's accurate, cheap, heavy, has replaceable grips, and there's a .22LR kit for it. The only surprise "feature" is that the magazines don't drop free by default.
 
My vote: CZ-75 w/ a Kadet .22lr kit. If you can swing it, get the SP-01, it is that much better. I would take any CZ-75 model over a Glock 17 or XD-9, any day. But if we are talking compact 9mm CCW pistols, I would start voting for Glock instead of CZ (only because the P-01 isn't nearly as small or light as the G26 and the RAMI has many disadvantages). For a purely range/Comp gun, the SP-01 w/ a Kadet kit is one of the best reasonably priced production pistols out there.

I've shot all three, and if it were me doing the choosing, the gun would be the CZ75. It fits me better, I shoot it well, and when I'm not shooting it it's more fun to look at.

At this time I don't have a 75, but I do have a 97B which I really like. Also a 52, funky from the factory and a great shooter.

As others have said, you'll really need to pick them all up to help you decide. Even better, rent and shoot them.

I have a CZ, (a 40B) and will be picking up an XD soon. (To see what all the hype is about for myself :) )

For a purely range, target gun I think I'd opt for the CZ. Something about the feel of an all steel handgun. Not the best for extended carry though due to the weight.

I like the CZ's (a lot of them anyway) in that you can carry them cocked and locked or have a double action first shot.

Never been a big semi auto Glock fan. Not sure exactly why. I guess I want a manual safety or at least a grip safety like on the XD.
 
Get the Glock, be your own armorer.

I have spares for every small part in my Glock and I can swap any of them out in minutes.

It's accurate, reliable, lightweight, and durable.

You don't have to worry about rust or crappy MIM parts. Or having a gunsmith grind on new parts to make it work right (*cough* 1911 *cough*).

Major parts failure will almost always be replaced by Glock, Inc., even if it's your fault.

Cheap high-cap mags are everywhere, and every holster, sight, flashlight, etc. manufacturer makes accessories for the Glock.

The only tool you need for a detail strip is a punch of some sort. I use a large nail with the tip ground off.

The more beat up they get, the better they look. :p

My G26 has never had a failure of any kind in 4000 rounds of all sorts of ammo. I've cleaned it 3 times. :eek:
 
I've owned and shot all three, and stayed with the Glock for regular use. However, there's a "new kid on the block" that may eclipse all three of the guns you name... the new Smith & Wesson M&P. It's reviewed in the latest Guns & Ammo magazine, and initial feedback I've heard from LE contacts is very, very positive. They're telling me that it's kept all of the good features of other polymer-frame pistols, added a very good trigger, and is overall a high-quality gun. Depending on the retail price (not yet released), it might top all of the other three.

I'm watching it closely, and will test-fire one as soon as it's available.
 
I'd go with the XD-9. The CZs are great pistols, but lose points for the double action trigger. Besides, the XDs are as simple as simple can get and have a lifetime warranty from a company that is very good to its customers.

A few months ago, Handguns Magazine ran a lengthy torture test on a bone stock XD-9 and they could not make it malfunction. You will probably never abuse an XD as they did but the test was eye-opening.

I own a 4 inch XD-40 and love it. It has been accurate and utterly reliable and I have not seen any of the rust on the slide as some say will happen. I own two Colt 1911s, a Belgian Hi-Power and a Sig 220, so I have high expectations for my autopistols and the XD has met those expectations.

Just to complicate things further-

I'll give a mix of advice- I'll 2nd whoever said try them all see what feels best and go with that.

BUT- Since you post that this will be range/comp only- I'd go Glock. If you are set on 9mm I would also consider the G34. You will gain sight radius and a little weight to reduce recoil, you will lose concealability but you stated range use/competition only.

If you go with an XD I would also think hard about the longer slide.

If you can live with 40 S+W, I think the G35 is one of the best pistols to buy for USPSA. You can shoot production, limited 10 and limited with it and be competitive in all divisions. For limited you will have to sink some cash into the gun. 40 isn't THAT much more expensive than 9. If you reload it's about the same, arguably minor loads in 40 are softer shooting than minor loads in in 9mm.

I wanted to start shooting competitions a few years ago and picked up a G17. I put in a 3.5 lb connector did some polishing, bought a sight pusher and put on aftermarket sights. I am pretty happy. It has worked great through thousands of rounds, had 2 problems-

started to extract crappy, had to detail strip and clean a ton of WWB poop out the extractor area.

broke an assembly pin once while detail stripping, my fault.

I used a cheap uncle Mike's holster (dremeled the holster a touch) and mag holders, mags are easy to get and affordable.

I bought WWB ammo for 11.00/100, recently bought some comp ammo from lancer for about 110.00/1000.

It was an easy and affordable way to get in to this type of shooting. Look for a police trade in G17 if you go that way, or get used. Pay 350.00 to 400.00 or get a bunch of mags thrown in.

The whole thing has gone pretty well for me, but sometimes I wish I'd have got a G34. Someday maybe I'll upgrade.

Seriously, I'll pick the Glock 17/34 because of servicibility (if ever needed), its reliable, it has the best finish, accurate enough, cheap and easy to find magazine, ' lots of accessories, lightweight, short trigger travel and reset.......etc.
It makes a great beat around/multi purpose gun.

Wait 'til you start winning major matches (GSSF is one), then us the $$ from there to upgrade. :)
 
Start with the CZ75B. Then, later on, if and when you're still interested, you can decide between the XD and the Glock.
 
I noticed in your list that stay with guns made from traditional materials. So do I. Of those three you mention, I'd get the CZ. It just feels good to hold (never fired one).

I liked the XD9's more than the Glock 17, but have no experience with the CZ75's, unfortunately.

LOL! The BHP is King, Queen and Prince of the 9's, that's for sure! :D

CZ feels a LOT like it, btw... at least to me.

The BHP IS very nice. :) I've got several pistols, but never got a HP. One of my friends owns one, and it shot and pointed very well for me. Doesn't feel as bulky to me as many of the other double stacks.
 
While I would love to have BHP (would go nicely with my 1911 ;) ), my limit is 500 or so, and I don't want to get used.

Yea I know, used is a better deal. But it's my money, and there just something about being the first person to take that oil soaked gun out of the protective bag. Sends chills up my spine everytime. :D

Hate to complicate things with more choices... but... if you want a BHP for under $500, try CDNN. These are brand new, Belgian FN HiPowers for $449. Download the catalog and be amazed. I sure was!

I've realized I'm a Glock person, I've bought and sold them for other types of pistols and have always come back to Glocks. I'm just more accurate with them than with any other type. But that's just me. I like the "no muss, no fuss, set it and forget it" qualities of these guns. BTW have two G19's and a G21.
 
Rent all 3 and see which one you like better.

I had decided ahead of time that the XD-9 looked the best, but decided to give the G-17 a try at the range. At least for me, the gun jumped in my hand more than the XD-9, but my groups were better than the XD-9. I then tried the CZ75B, and the felt recoil was even less, and I got better grouping than either the Glock or Springfield. The trigger for the CZ was better positioned on my finger than the other two. The downside was that the grip on the CZ was just slightly off (for me), so that the corner of the frame didn't quite match where my finger joints were. The salesguy suggested some alternate grips that he said should fix the problem, but I wasn't quite convinced.

I ended up buying a CZ-550 in 6.5x55 swedish instead. :D
