I am a supporter of gun control. I believe guns should be controlled through education and routine training. Therefore, I have written to my local representatives to push forward the the Firearms Training Act.

The Firearms Training Act would provide free training and education about firearms to anyone who would like such training. The government would pay for programs which would train the firearm owner on how to operate their firearms in a responsible and safe manner. Furthermore, such an act would fund and promote national competitions where firearms owners could practice what they learned in the training.

It is my belief our society has a problem in that most owners are not trained or educated enough to be able to operate their firearms. A government sponsored program to educate and train would help alleviate random accidents. It would also help folks stay out of legal trouble. Many people cant afford such training so its important that our government fund and pay to train the owners and to encourage them to compete in national competitions.

In my opinion, this is the most sensible form of gun control. I will now post a poll where members of The High Road can let everyone know how they feel about the Firearms Training Act.

There is only one organization that I think of who can create such a curriculum. In fact, the curriculum has already been created by these folks. That organization is the National Rifle Association. The NRA has many accredited training courses which help both the novice and advanced user.

What I mean is, he (it) who pays, is basically the customer, and the customer always dictates what the product/service will end up being.

That's a nice poll you have there, you either agree with your idea or want to confiscate guns.

I voted no, because it IS the government's job to confiscate the tools of violent felons.

And your creation of the answer choices is total crap.

More nanny-state nonsense. Why must everything be the government's responsibility? If you want firearms training, there are plenty of private firms available for hire. And if you can afford a gun, you can afford a basic firearms safety course.

the federal gov't already has accredited firearms training courses, i think you should sign up for one of the, try the U.S. Marines first, if you can pass the course, then try the army,....they also give lessons in constitutional beliefs, i think it would really do you some good

Gimme a freakin' break! What a ridiculous pair of poll questions.

Another great opportunity to utilize the "Rate Thread" drop down at te top right corner.

Somebody please kill this poll. 99.9% of us would vote neither. Don't need government training nor them confiscating guns. Just need em confiscating criminals.

How about neither?
The only firearms training the government should have its paws in are the military and federal law enforcement.

Who would pay for it? Taxes. And I don't want any more of those, either.
