I was playing guitar the other day, and two people walked into my house uninvited and unannounced. Luckily the gun was out of reach or i would have killed two of my good friends. I was so freaked out that to men were walking into my house i didnt recognize them for a split second, they had hats on and i coulndt see their face.

jump to 15 minutes later. Were sitting and all the sudden we here the front door open and someone walking up the stairs i run out to the top of the stairs and allmost kill another friend.

despite the fact that 3 people walked into my house unannounced, that was their fault, i see more of a chance for me to hurt someone i care about than actually protect me.

my two pistols are for sale in the handgun section. people with high strung nerves lime me should just make do with baseball bats and frying pans

You might want to lock the door.

Just saying....it's a lot less surprising to hear the doorbell ring.

If you don't think that you are capable of safely owning guns, then I appreciate your choice to get rid of them.

wow i think you have some serious issues. if you can't do simple things like lock your doors, and secure your house, i don't believe that you should have owned guns in the first place. so much for avoidance, and detterance.

Sounds to me if you can't get yourself in check you might not want to have ANY weapons around. Someone killed with a baseball bat is just as dead as someone who was shot...

As mentioned before, door locks work wonders. Some studies even claim that they do more to protect your home than guns do.

If thats the case, you may be right. Not everyone is sensible enough to own guns. However, the fact that you recognize that is a positive thing.

I would wait a little before you sell your guns. Maybe go to the range and shoot them again. Bring them home, clean them and really think about it.

If you sell them now for $485 and $650 for the Glock and Sig respectively, you may take a hit and then six months from now when the weather warms up, you might get the itch again and want guns. What then?

Maybe you can get a safe and lock them up for a month or two if you really feel disheartened, but IMO a rash decision made after an emotional experience is almost always regretted.

I'm not going to try to talk you out of selling your guns.

If you don't feel safe or comfortable keeping them, then you're probably right (you know you better than we do).

The irony is that realizing you're not safe to own the guns is probably a sign that you're self aware enough that you ARE probably actually safe enough ... that's an irony right there :p

But like others have said, maybe you should just lock the door first (and then lock up the guns) you might change your mind down the road.

Door locks, door bells, alarms, or common courtesy from your friends to let you they're coming would solve the problem as well. You may want to lock your guns up until you re-evaluate how you use them in your own home. Selling them because you're not willing to do any of the above indicates some other motive for getting rid of them. The choice is yours, but it's not something any of us here (I suppose) would remotely consider without trying other (free) and simple alternatives.

I'd suggest you lock your door. Simple solution.

Sounds like you need to chill out a bit. I have friends walk into my house unannounced all the time. But, my room is in the basement and I've learned to recognize the way they walk and how they sound when they walk. You could also tell them to announce themselves when they walk in the door. It's not difficult.

Although, if that's the way you feel...none of us can stop you.

You ever heard of locking your door?? I would lay odds that this is a fake post by an anti-gunner. BTW, what guns are you selling and for how much?

bull crap
in general. Sounds like a whining, hand wringing, liberal gun hater.

Just the stuff they try to sell. "You will only shoot yourself or someone you love" crap. Morons do stupid things with all sorts of things, not just guns.

sam, They are in the Handguns WTS section of the forum. I thought the same thing at first, and it could still be true about what you said, but I think he is legitimate.

I think some of you guys are being a little hard on the OP.

He's made a reasonable decision. Same reason I don't own a motorcycle ... nothing against motorcycles nor those that ride, I just know I'd end up getting myself killed if I owned one.

To lump him in with gun grabbers is a little harsh.

I'm not sure why exactly, but something about the overall tone of your post makes me hope you successfully sell your guns, if that is how you feel.

If you don't even lock your doors, and you are that jumpy/twitchy... sell them.

No Problem - in fact, I also appreciate you knowing yourself well enough to know you might not handle firearms appropriately given certain conditions.

I see your guns are for sale - good luck with the sales, and thanks for posting.
