After a 6-MONTH-WAIT, I finally received my Stag Arms 2HT upper. Pic with DPMS lower, converted Saiga.

My DPMS varmint upper is on a 16-24 month wait....who knows when I'm gonna get that.

Now, where can I get a good deal on Eotech or Aimpoint??

optics planet generally has good pricing. I picked up an Eotech combo with the 4x magnifier for right at $1000 about 6 months ago from them...bought seperately they would have cost about $1400

Might give the Bushnell MP Trophy a read - good red dot and reasonable.

Decent reviews - I like mine and so do some of my buds that have more expensive sighting options.

What kind of rail systems do you have on both of them?

On the Saiga, I have a quadrail made by UTG. It was something like $70 and pretty well made IMO. Excellent fit and lots of slots. It is made in Taiwan I belive, so you just have to watch your part count, but I have plenty of US parts on mine.

Stag 2HT upper comes with Samson Mfg.
Star-C free float quad rail. It is a very nice rail.

lvcat, did you have to buy the front HG retainer, or does the rail just replace the stock HG? I dont like the idea of buying an $85 part to use a $70 part, nor do I like the idea of putting a rifle in a press (which I dont own anyway).

Nice guns lvcat2004.

Let me know how that stag upper shoots.I'm curious because I wanted to get one.Not in a hurry though because I don't need it.

Zach S, that's a good question and the answer is NO.

I was looking at many AK rails but I concluded that I would need an expensive HG retainer to make it fit and I wasn't up for that until I found this one that's made specifically for Saiga 7.62.

It fits perfectly with 4 hex bolts. There is absoutely no play. It does not use the screw on the bottom surface near the magazine well, and I sort of wish it did just for the heck of it, but it's very sturdy with no play nonetheless.

I had a tapco Galil type plastic one until I replaced it with this one, and wished that I have known about it sooner because it looks SO much better. I do have to say that it makes the somewhat heavy AK slightly heavier than plastic, but what do we need a light wimpy rifle for?

Here is a review of it:

Cool, thanks for the info.

A rail system isn't what I had in mind, but its nice to know I have the option if plan A doesnt work out.

Saiga shoots great so far. I was hitting metal targets at 300 and 400 yards with open sights last time I took her out. I just finished conversion 2 weeks ago, and I just threaded the barrel this week, so I haven't shot it yet after the AK74 brake went on.

I literally just got the AR upper today so I haven't shot her yet.

The rear sight it came with is A.R.M.S. #40L low profile flip sight. This 2HT came with good stuff. I can't wait to shoot it.

I ordered two uppers from Rock River in early January. The first one came in about 10 days ago: National Match A2. The other is still on backorder: CAR style 16" fixed carry handle.

Absolutely crazy waits, especially since I've been seeing AR-15's fairly commonly throughout the Obamania going on. However, no one seemed to carry exactly what I was looking for. I could have picked up a flattop or standard A2 at my leisure. I've only seen one CAR style upper and never a NM upper at the local gunshows (and only on CAR style at a shop, and was enough $$$ that I was willing to wait.
