If it's a registered sub machine gun, $4,500.00 would be about the going rate. If it's a semi-automatic handgun, and I suspect it is, it's way over priced. Secondly, there were a number of manufacturers of the MAC 10 pistol, beginning with Military Armament Corporation which, I believe, is the most collectible of all. The MAC 10 was produced in 9 mm and .45 ACP. I believe even the highly sought after .380 ACP MAC 11 pistol sells for less than $4,500.00 Can you indicate the manufacturer and caliber of the MAC 10 you're interested in?

I have fired a fully automatic .45 acp Mac 10, and in my humble opinion, you couldn't pay me $4,500.00 to own one. It's uncontrollable and ruins the brass. The chamber was so over sized the brass was swollen beyond reusing. It was almost impossible to hit a 3# coffee can with more than one shot at 10 yards.

I have quite a bit of experience with full auto firearms, both in the Marine Corps and as the range master for the Sheriff's Dept. I retired from, with over 600 sworn personnel. I've fired the M-2 Browning, M-14 full auto, M2 Carbine, Thompson, Grease Gun (most controllable of the bunch), Reising SMG, M-60, SAW and M-16, in addition to that one Mac 10. The only one I would never desire to shoot again would be the Mac 10, but that's just my opinion.

Hope this helps.

I agree with Fred. The Mac 10 is the bottom of the bucket as far as full-auto weapons go and is only suitable as a novelty act at the range. But first, you'd better make damn sure that the paperwork is right with this thing before you even pick it up again, let alone sink that kind of money in a POS.

How were you shooting them that they were so much trouble?

I own an SWD M11/9mm, and have shot a number of the originals, and never had any troubles keeping good bursts on any target I was shooting at. You do need to use the stock though, and are better off throwing that silly strap away. While they are more towards the bottom of the bucket in regards to quality compared to some others, in the right hands, they are far from a novelty.

I agree with fred as well. I had the opportunity to fire a full-auto Mac-10 and after the 1st shot you had no chance in hell of hitting anything inside of ten yards. It just climbs and climbs.

If its doing this, you're fighting the gun. They all do that when you do, the ones that run faster just seem to do it more. If you relax, go with the gun and ride it like a hose, you can keep full mag dumps COM at 10-15 yards.

I've always been amazed at how poorly our military teaches full auto fire. My kids did better at 6 with mine, then most of the "combat" vets I let shoot them. I guess they just forgot how they worked (if they ever really knew).

$19,000.00 is that a fair price?
$19000 is probably about average, and maybe even a little high, depending on what your getting. I sold one a couple of years ago for $15000 that was a well used, Fleming converted HK94, and was basically, just that, no bells and whistles, just a select fire 94 with a chopped barrel. At the time, a three pin gun that was pretty close to correct was going for about $20,000, and from what I've seen, they have come down somewhat in price.

If bonham was being facetious about buying a $19,000.00 MP 5, I have to agree with him. What other choices are available for an unrestricted Class 3 sub machine gun in the $4,500.00 range? The MAC 10 is a good choice.

Using a full auto for self defense would be a poor choice for a number of reasons.

1. Controllability. You're responsible for every bullet you send into public. Sure, 15 of your shots may hit your target, but where are those other 15? How much damage or death did you just sign up for?

2. Bad publicity.

3. Confiscation of evidence, even temporarily, until it can be determined if your shoot was a good one. It's well known that law enforcement mishandles weapons. And it may be in evidence for months or years before you get it back. Do you want to be out thousands of dollars?

4. For legitimate self defense, there are many other better choices in handguns, shotguns and rifles. Semi-automatic is certainly a darn good choice for self defense.

Either to much money to waste or to many movies Full auto is not a good Civilian SD weapon period Street sweeper right just what we need a civ. street sweeper anti's would have a field day with that
Want to play with full auto Army and Marines will pay you to play street sweeper sign up

That sounds like John Kerry or Joe Biden's words.

Bonham...
yeah but thats why they call them street sweepers hey the cops cant be everywhere!

You're responsible for every projectile released from your firearm. Since your MAC-10 isn't slowfire converted, and probably doesn't have a shoulder stock with good ergonomics to keep it on target for more than a single shot, you'll not just be wasting ammunition, but causing potential lethal harm to noncombatants within a radius of 10-25 yards.

That cavalier attitude needs to be belayed, and get yourself something that encourages, not discourages, marksmanship.

Bad publicity can be an important issue if you're forced to use a Class III weapon for self defense. There are people who've done so, and not been hassled, but if you do so, you must understand that the prosecutor may choose to present it as evidence of excessive force on your part.

You might want to read about a self-defense shooting by Gary Fadden in 1984. He would up about $45,000 out of pocket by the time he had successfully defended himself in court.

"but causing potential lethal harm to noncombatants within a radius of 10-25 yards. "

More realistically, lethal harm can be caused more like a mile radius, not just "10-25 yards". In one of our SWAT shootings, the team member with an MP-5 had his weapon on full auto, without realizing it. When the convicted cop killer, who had just gotten out of prison and was shooting at more cops, shot at him, he pulled the trigger and emptied the magazine. A woman over a mile away was hit with a ricochet and sustained what looked like a bee sting, but collected over $50,000 in the settlement, even though the shooting was justified.

Using a full auto firearm for civilian defense, "with malice aforethought", will bring nothing but grief to the shooter.

Hope this helps.

If your the least bit proficient with the gun, a "stock" gun used with its stock extended, will easily keep a burst COM at reasonable ranges. Yes it runs faster than most, but it doenst run until empty, or even half empty, unless you let it. A typical burst for a MAC is about 4-5 rounds.

he pulled the trigger and emptied the magazine.
Without any realization he was doing it? Sounds like he needs off SWAT.

Other than maybe losing an investment to the property room for awhile, I see no problem using a FA gun for what it was designed, if its being used lawfully when its being done. All this worrying about the legal aftermath crap, which applies to anything else anyway, will just get you killed. If its whats at hand around here when its needed, its getting used.

If your worried about what the "antis" think, your a little late and who cares anyway.

One of my family members has a real Military Armament Corporation (MAC) 10 9MM. IMO it is a much talked about, over rated, not very accurate weapon, but does look mean. I know for a fact this weapon was obtained legally in a gun for a 2001 HD Sportster motorcycle trade and the bike was worth far less than any $14K.

You can get a stock and new upper from Robert Lage that will transform you Mac-10 into a reliable and easy to control high quality weapon. There is a waiting list and it is not cheap, over $1100. Much cheaper than an UZI or an MP5, though. $4500 is on the high side, maybe way too much. Depends on the manufacturer. If the Mac 10 already has the Lage Max upper, stock and vertical forearm, then $4500 is a good price.

BUY it.

If you have that much disposable cash, and can legally own it, then you can also legally get a suppressor for it?

I also figure you have a house, so, you can set up a shooting gallery in the basement, since that's pretty much what the gun is designed for. It's designed to come into a room, and clear it, quickly. Problem is, it's kind of hard to use that skill set at a public range, so, keep that in mind.

A mac 10 is really worth about 300-500 dollars. If you have someplace to shoot it, they are fun, and, I imagine you could have a tighter barrel fitted to save brass, etc.

As for self-defense, NO. It's perfect if the bad guys come into your house. However, the firestorm for using a full auto weapon is going to cost you about 200k, legal fees, unless you know your DA, and, he doesn't care about getting reelected.

Last one I heard of was a guy that worked for H*K and, he grabbed it out of the back of his truck, after buying it at a gun show: Ruger full auto, IIRC. The meth heads that followed him home had been driving recklessly, and had been shooting at his truck with a .357. They committed suicide by full auto. The guy had to spend 125k, and, lost his job.
