I found something about the XD/HS 2000 that can be considered a design flaw

Awhile ago at the range when I was shooting with friends, I first noticed this. Earlier today I finally got some .40 S&W dummy rounds and finally could post a picture that wouldn't freak out the "Safety Nazis". ;)

This "flaw" shows up when you dry fire the gun, lock it to the rear, and then try to chamber a round. The firing pin sticks out preventing a round from chambering. Granted this is a non issue during shooting but you have to completely rack the slide before you can insert a mag to chamber a round.

Score one up for Glocks if you want to be a pain but who cares, I still like XDs better and this isn't really an issue.

Here is a picture of what I'm talking about:

I would have an armorer look at that. It looks more like a malfunction than a design flaw.

I would think that it would cock as you pull the slide back, so did you dry fire it with the slide locked back?

Also, does this occur with an XDM? I'm too lazy to clear mine to check :p

Speaking of the firing pin, I always wondered what the purpose of the firing pin indicator was, because in order for a round to chamber, you have to cycle the slide, which would mean if the chamber is loaded, then the striker is ready.

My only real gripe about the XD is actually what they think is a safety feature - that you can't rack the slide with out the grip safety being held. When I clear my weapon, I'd prefer to hold it in my left hand, with my first two fingers around the trigger guard and my next two around the grip, and then put my right hand on the front slide serrations and cup the slide with my hand, so that I can easily catch the cartridge. The way I have to do it requires a little more twisting of my hand.

All in all, minor gripes that I have. I never said it was perfect, but it was the best fit for me. My perfect pistol would be to take an XDM and simply take off the grip safety and associated hassles, remove the striker pin indicator, and add something to the LCI to make it slightly more visible (such as orange coloring that's only visible when loaded).

Like I said, though, it still has more features that I like than the Glock/M&P (closest competitors IMO), and I can live with the features it has that I don't want.

Dry Fired, locked slide to rear, inserted mag, released slide, round chambered ok. The firing pin would be retracted (cocked) before u could even look into the chamber. You should have it looked at. Normaly I leave mine dry fired, full mag in it. Then all I have to do is rack it before I take it out with me. Pic is after I dry fired, locked slide to rear, then inserted mag.

That definitely looks more like something is wrong with the gun. I'm positive that never happened with my XD.

I just played with it for 5 minutes and it would do this sometimes. I think this is why it jammed on me twice before now that I think about it. I'll upload some pictures of the insides. I have taken apart the gun completely before so I may have done something wrong. Tell me if you see something wrong in the pictures.

It happens some of the time I've found but not all the time. Sometimes it sticks out enough to feel it.

Just found out, it's missing a spring in front of the firing pin! Time to order one.

EDIT: I found it! I thought it was from an airsoft gun or something I took apart years ago! It has been like this for months without an issue, guess that shows the XD reliability that it worked for the most part while missing a spring. I guess I'm part of the stupid crowd for now, hopefully I can redeem myself.
