A friend came over yesterday with his new Springfield XD in .40. We had a blast putting about 150 rounds through it but we ran into some problems. I couldn't believe the problems we had considering the great things I've read abou the XD over the past few weeks. Unfortunately this friend of mine did not ask my opinion when buying ammo so he bought some of that al. cased CCI blazer stuff. I've never heard good things about this ammo, but here's what we an into.
We had three failures to feed and two poor strikes of the primers. This never happened when I was shooting at all so i was wondering if this could be due to my little bit more firm of a grip? Is my friend limp wristing? Is this a fluke? Each time there was a failure to feed, the bullet chambered perfectly straight, but did not seat all the way into the lans of the chamber...do you think if was just dirty? it's a brand new gun? And if it were dirty, wouldn't we have had some extraction issues too in addition to feed issues? Not sure what happend with the poor stirkes, but the primer just had a little dent in it, a lot smaller than normal....upon re-chambering they fired fine, but it worries me that we had these problems. Another interesting fact, he didn't get the gear pack with it...I thought ALL XD's now came with the cool gear pack? All he had were two mags and a cheapo case.
Anyone have any advice? or insight?

It's probably a combination of limp wristing and bad ammo. I've had problems with the aluminum stuff in every gun I've every autoloader I have ever tried. I bought some by mistake a couple of months ago for my 45. It fired but the cases are so soft if you don't let the slide snap into battery it would hang up. If you friend isn't used to the snappy recoil of a .40 he can definately have problems with limpwristing. I've had my XD for over a year and never had a problem, but I have never used the aluminum stuff either. Try the WWB value packs from wally world and see if you don't have better results.

I agree with houndawg. My XD40 is the most reliable handgun I've ever owned. I've fired a couple of thousand rounds thru it, mostly WWB, without a single hiccup. Give it a good cleaning, lube it up real well, and run some brass ammo thru it and let us know how it works.

Light strikes and getting hung up when going straight into the chamber? Sounds like the gun is dirty to me. Dirt in the firing pin channel slowing down the firing pin (or striker, technically, on the XD) and dirt in the chamber/on the slide rails.

That would be my first guess, and after cleaning if it still had problems I would blame the ammo and/or the shooter's wrist. Both easy to correct.

I shoot nothing but blazer - had some bad luck w/ WWB. But, try to clean the gun and try a different brand of ammo - some guns like different brands.

i have neevr tried blazer aluminum, i have used blazer brass though, and have no problems at all after 2000rds of various ammo, i truely trust mine and my families life to my xd! just because you can shoot 1000rds through it without incident dosen't mean you have to! you know!

I had a few FTE's in the first 250 round's with my XD45 Tactical. I'm now approaching 4000 round's with out a Hic-Up! I use mostly Winchester & keep it cleaned & oiled. No problem's have surfaced since break in.

Me and my buddy went out yesterday with his 45xd and he decided to try some loaded rounds we had.Big mistake. The first round he fed into the gun not only got stuck but would not reopen. The gun was non operable with a hot round in the barrel. He messed with it for hours and still could not open the slide to take this round out. never use reloads that my buddy makes is something i learned.

I have shot reloads after reloads threw my gun no problem, are u sure he used the right caliber, anyways, I have only had 1 hiccup and that was after about 400 rounds and the slide caught the bullet before it could eject.

Get a Lee factory crimp die. They are reasonably priced and make it almost impossible to produce mis-sized ammo.

I had some problem with my XD40 with fiocchi 170gr. This is the ammo that my xd couldn't digest very well. I sent it back to SA, they did something with the extractor. Hey, I thought screwing around with extractor is a 1911 thing. :D

I never have any problems with CCI Blazer in any caliber (9, 40, 45) in my HK though.
