Even the mainstream media has been fact-checking the President's statements about firearms recently. Apparently, his comment about the 9mm being capable of "blowing people's lungs out" gave pause to even some of his most ardent media defenders, as lately, the White House and Pres. Biden are making some extreme, and egregiously in-correct non-factual claims.

The notion that when the 2nd Amendment became effective, one could not purchase a cannon has even been de-bunked, though I'm waiting for someone to point out to the White House -- and have media reportage -- that back in the day, Congress was authorized to issue Letters of Marque, and a citizen could not only own a ship, he could load it with cannons and operate as a privateer in support of the U.S. government.(although since the Civil War, the U.S. has followed the terms of the 1856 Paris Declaration forbidding the practice. The United States has not legally commissioned any privateers since 1815, but interestingly, In February of 2022, House bill H.R. 6869 was introduced, and would've authorized the President to issue letters of marque and reprisal" in relation to the Russian invasion of the Ukraine (obviously, this went nowhere).

So perhaps this is a good sign for the RKBA. Obviously, pending legislation will be controversial and contentious.

Thanks for link, it's certainly welcome news.

I think perhaps the chunk of new gun owners who are liberals, may be helpful in correcting some of the nonsense being spread around. They are after all willfully educating themselves on firearms. It's one potential benefit of the pandemic panic buying.

Might be useful against Somali pirates . . .

Up until 1934 there was no restriction on anything . . .

Maybe the pandemic did help gun rights. Lots of new gun owners from the other side of the aisle ie former anti gun people. I would not have expected msn to do a fact check on a ridiculous gun claim against Biden. Maybe even CNN is next? I can dream.

It wasn't that long ago that we saw what many people thought would be unimaginable, cities burning and people being assaulted by rioters while law enforcement in many cities was told to stand down. Some politicians tried to convince us that these were peaceful protests. Fast forward to today and crime is rampant in many of our cities as no bail laws, refusal by DA's to prosecute violent criminals and defunding police departments have sent a message to criminals that it's open season on their victims. The end result is an increase in gun ownership as people realize they need to protect themselves and their families. I would expect significant push back from both long time gun owners as well as these new gun owners against efforts to prevent us from protecting ourselves.

I am not very old. But I remember the LA Rodney King riots. Police standing by doing nothing. I didn't understand much about the politics or why the riots were happening. Just seeing "Rooftop Koreans" and others having to defend themselves. The anti-gun argument of "just call the police" never held water with me after that. And it held even less after the BLM "peaceful protests" over the last couple years.

IIRC, 2 Browning/Colt "potato diggers" were privately purchased by wealthy families and donated to accompany T.R. and the Rough Riders on their Cuban foray. I'd imagine they coulda bought cannons then too, some century after the 2A was written.

The big question is, do the people perpetuating these falsehoods truly believe what they're saying? Are they just hoping there are enough gullible people to buy in? It's hard to fathom that people in such powerful positions could be so uninformed.
