I got my first Mosin about February. I just got number 5 yesterday, and won an auction for #6 the day before. I knew getting that C&R would keep my wallet empty!

Have
91/30 Round Receiver
91/30 Hex receiver
M44
M38
91/59

Waiting to receive a Westinghouse!

Congrats. I'm pretty well over Mosins now that the ammo's no longer dirt-cheap, but I'd like to find a Remington and a Finn M39 somewhere...

How cheap was the ammo? And how long ago was it that you last saw it that price?

I'm happy with my 1943 Izhvesk. A very fine specimen, with good rifling and a bright bore. Only thing I did with it was replace the metal buttplate with a compression pad designed specifically for the Mosin Nagant. There's no medal for pain.

It used to be around 10-12 cents per round, shipped, in the past couple of years. It's now around 25 cents per round shipped if you're buying 880 rounds (a full case) at a time, probably a few cents more if you're buying per 440rd tin due to proportionally more shipping costs. This is for steel-cased, Berdan-primed, non-reloadable, corrosive surplus ammo. I haven't priced commercial brass lately but it's probably somewhere in the $1/rd range.

I used to want a Makarov, too, back when they were plentiful and cheap, as was the ammo, and the prospect of turning 21 and being able to send off for my C&R kept me quivering in anticipation. I'd probably have given a kidney for a Mak back then, seriously. They were the coolest little things in the world to me.

Now, my 21st is in three days, Maks are long-gone, ammo's no cheaper than 9mm Para and I don't see much point overall in spending $300 on a heavy steel Euro-.380 when I could buy an LCP or a CZ 75B for not much more.

Depressing to think about all the stuff I had to watch slip away before my eyes...

Weeks ago i have been logging my FInn M39 while deer hunting. Just never had the chance to see a deer . I zeroed it with Sellier Bellot 180 gr SP which shoots 2 inch grp at 100 yds. Im just itchy to bag a hog or deer with this thing. Its heavy out in the field but I guess it s part of it. It gives me reason to burn those calories alright, hunting is exercise for me anyways.

I'm taking my M39 deer hunting this weekend. My primary deer gun this year will be a scoped No.4 Enfield, but I'm going to bring the M39 along too for situations where iron sights would work better.
