I actually got my rusted-up POS back (http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?t=491704)

I received a letter form the Sheriff's Office and I was worried I had run a light or something. Anyways, I open it and it states I have 30 days to retreive my property from evidence or it will be disposed of, the letter did not even list what it was.
I was so surprised when I got there and they actually gave me a evidence bag with this rusted up thing in it.

I have to go get a display case now. I have never been so happy to get such a piece of junk.
I honestly never thought I would see it again.

This is my original post:
Found in Backyard

I recently purchased an empty lot adjacent to my house and today I was clearing the lot and found this in the dirt under some scrub pines.

The bore looks like a .38 I think (pic below)

What the heck is it?

Cool, I remember seeing the original thread. You should put it up in a case for sure.

Maybe you could build a little shadow box with the pistol and the evidence recipt/Sheriff Office letter in it.

Good idea, The box would probably cost more than the gun, LOL.

I think I'll do it.

Hey!!

I've thought about that thread/gun from time to time and almost sent you a PM to give me an update. I mouthed off (as usual) in that thread, but I'm glad you got your gun back! Now, toss it in a bucket of diesel fuel and leave it there for a couple weeks.:D

I remember the original thread and I too thought you had seen the last of the old relic. Glad I was wrong. Happy you got it back and kudos to the SD for doing the right thing.

Yep.... and then.....

Take it out and shoot it!

That's a nice old gun even though it's seen better days. I'm glad for you that you got it back... Displaying it with the letter sounds like a good idea to me too.

there is another thread going on here of someone buying an iver johnson .38 sw that has very similar features to your find.

Congrats on getting it back! Slightly off topic, back in 2002 my home was burglarized and my Glock 19 was stolen from it's obviously not so good hiding spot. Then just about 1 year ago I recieved a letter from the property room at the Sheriff's Department letting me know they recovered it during an arrest and they no longer needed it for evidence. After 7 years I had long since written it off so it was pretty cool to actually get it back. It needed a bit of cleaning up and a few new parts but she shoots just fine now!

I found this one while deer hunting about 30 years ago----I never got around to refinishing it or shooting it..............................
