Good Evening All,
A friend stopped by yesterday and we shot a few pistols (his Walther P22, my Ruger 22/45, and my Bersa 9mm HC). We had a nice time defending ourselves from stationary paper targets. 22's are always fun to shoot and full sized 9mm pistols are satisfying with power, accuracy, and little recoil.
Then he brought out his M-1 Garand. What a hoot! It was a rack grade CMP M1 from the 50's that had been reaquired from Denmark shooting 1970's era surplus ammo from Greece. How cosmopolitan of us.
Anyway, it was great fun to shoot. I hadn't fired a full caliber semi-auto before (plenty of 5.56 from my service days) and didn't know exactly what to expect. It certainly lets you know that it is there but with a heavy rifle and the feeling of all those mechanisms at work the recoil was not bad at all. It had a very different feel than the bolt guns I'd been shooting lately.
Don't turn down an opportunity to shoot an M-1 if you get the chance.
Have fun, stay safe.
