I guess it's time to stockpile ammo

I disagree. California has a history of setting hot rod and fashion trends. The rest of the nation doesn't pay as much attention to politics and draconian policy. For example, those of us in automotive still have to deal with 49 state vs. CA compliant vehicles...........

Nail on the head. I always remind people of this when they dismiss things as "awww, that's just California." Yeah, that's just California alright but go buy a new truck that doesn't meet CA emissions. Let me know when you find one.

From what I've heard the checkpoints also check to see if you have a recently filled gas tank to see if you are trying to avoid the gas tax.

I am sad for law abiding gun owners in the Golden State. It would seem that the state has enough criminals at present. Turning the law abiding gun owners into law breakers is surely not going to help their efforts to keep guns out of the hands of criminals. In my hop they want criminals who are already armed and ready. Its sad to see that such of a populated state has so few leaders with even average intelligence and so many with such low IQs. I would rather not think this about the average citizen but the voters elected the fools for their leaders.

Hey, I resemble that ... I told all my buds to stock up. So yeah, there will be a left coast run on ammo. Get it while you can...

We don't know if 03FFL's will be able to purchase ammo for collector weapons w/o the permit (yet). The final rules will be reviewed at least three times before they are set. Since an 03 is a Federal License, it might take precedent over a State issue (Donald, are you listening ...).

You'all know Cali is the lab maze for the rest of the country. These are imaginative attempts to allow you to have all the weapons you want, just no bullets ... Obviously testing the limits of the 2A ...

The Calif Legislature, and to some extent Jerry Brown, have squared off against Trump on a number of issues. Now we'll see how that plays out. For sure, one of the groups that will see fuller pay checks will be the lawyers. Every bit of this will be challenged at some point.

It's not just ammo - it's black rifles and semi-auto pistols too - and State issued serial numbers. There are all sorts of gears being worked. In the short run it sucks. In the long run it sets up a very nice scenarios for 2A challenges through the 9th Circuit which gets overturned 80% of the time. This may all turn out to be more important than Heller ...

Yeah, the fall back position is reloading. But that'll get stepped on too - eventually.

The issue with out of State sales is full of holes. If I'm in Wyo or NV visiting family and buy cash, how's that going to be tracked? Yeah, I may be in violation coming back in, but how are they going to check?

If they stop and check every vehicle thoroughly (which they can't even do at the Mexican Border, there will be no tourist industry (a significant piece of revenues). And if my cousin, who does not live here, drives me in a couple of cases, are they going to search them - can we say unlawful search and seizure. What's the trigger? What's the Due Cause?

This will all take some test cases, so it will be slow - but once SCOTUS rules, it'll all become clearer.

Meanwhile a national right to carry law will drive the libs nutz :D

The purpose of such legislation is to create as many obstacles as possible for gun owners. It stems from their belief that government knows best. My hope is that Trump's promise to eliminate unnecessary regulations will cancel such rules where possible. We all have to understand that the libs will never give up until they are crushed. We have to find the best way to manage the reality that common sense and honest debate do not work. They must be crushed in elections and the court.

In California, anyway.

I'm still unclear as to what the point of prop 63 was, given that it seems to be redundant after laws were passed earlier this year by the California legislature.

Anyway, barring the supreme Court overturning things, by 2018 California shooters will have to pass a background check to buy ammo, will not be able to buy ammo out of state, and will not be able to have ammo orders delivered to their residences.

Not wanting any part of that noise, my idea is to spend the next year and change stocking up on enough ammo and reloading supplies to last years. As of now, no additional restraints are being put on hand loaders but it wouldn't surprise me if that's on the legislatures to-do list.

I'm hoping that all California gun owners will similarly stock up in order to get as much ammo in circulation prior to the new law kicking in so as to make the restrictions more of a pointless money waster than they already are.

Ammo purchase as civil disobedience.

One word-vote

PS: Oh, yes, we do have checkpoints in California. They are run by people who like to feel your fruits, but they could easily expand that to ammo. No problem really. That's not a joke, it's true. We've had checkpoints since the 1970s.

I always like to stop and eat my apple before the check point, then throw the core across the state line

You may as well go big if you are going to risk going to jail. If a robber, at least rob the bank, not a gas station. Pool your money and draw lots for who drives and rent the biggest U Haul truck you can and bring a load not just a case or two of ammo. During yard sale season you can find plenty of junk and roached furniture act like you really want to move into a restricted area. Make sure it doesnt look fruity and if what I have heard is true, as some say [ Chance favors the bold ] and you can probably get away with almost anything Once

Violating the ammo law will just be an infraction, the lowest class of violation. As of now, now will be going to jail post 2018 for bringing ammo into California. Just a fine.

Not paying the fine could get you jail, though.

Well, much depends on what will happen during mid term elections and what awaits four years from now. What will happen in four years depands what is accomplished in next few years.

The lots in my state have plenty of trucks and is the poorest of the 50 states. Help us out by buying a new truck in Mississippi. It's true that it will not be compliant with California regulations but if I come to California for vacation will they expect me to modify my old truck BTW my gun and ammo hoarding precludes my having a new truck anyway. Lol

Your in CA - you can hoard all the ammo you want prior to 2018 , but if it stands, the next prop will be a limit on how much ammo one can store without a special permit and a secure fire proof vault.
I don't have the answer to how to rain in your state government in California, but blaming the NRA for the insanity of your leadership in CA. will do you no good.

Always remember, the only time you can ever have to much ammo is when your house is on fire.

It ain't in the house :D

I think I'm on good enough terms with relatives that some here or there ought to cover most of my stash, if limits kick in...
