Saturday, I tagged along with some gun nuts and ventured over to a field where some magical things happen. As soon as we got parked, a thunderous sound rang out through the mountains. Some guy had a 20mm rifle pounding away at the hillside downrange. Very nice experience, even though I didn't shoot it...I like my teeth where they are.

Mhmm..there were several special people there. The Thompsons were all special, as well as a M2 Carbine that showed up.

Personally, the 30-40 Krag pictured above is my favorite. Full-auto and extreme caliber rifles are cool, but the 30-40 is 111 years old this year and the old guy shooting it above has owned it for 50+ years. One straight shooting rifle, and a beautiful one at that!

What's the purpose of the square battering ram out the front of the tripod?

I believe those have a "dual bipod", or whatever you'd call it. It can sit on either two legs, or two skis. It's sitting on the skis. I can't even imagine where you'd find ammo for them.

Don't you have to be special to get one of those?

No sir, you, I, grandma can own and shoot a 20... semi auto of course.

I do hear of several state level restrictions... probably stamps(read $$$$)...

Just gotta have one... that's all there is to it!

oh, and ammo.... Brashco Specialty Ammo. Also buy up surplus trainer stuff, modify, reload, have fun!

Over .50 inches so they are considered destructive devices. Yes, you can get one, but it would cost you quite a bit... and I don't know where the heck you'd get the ammo for it, you'd probably have to load it yourself. (I don't think that will fit in my press!!!)

Reminds me of Unintended Consequences.....
