i hate when people look at a swiss m1911 carbine and say "hey, that's a K31"...

IT'S NOT THE SAME THING!!! idk why but that drives me insane... the 1911 carbine has the action from the old Schmidt Rubin m1889 rifle, the K31 is a modernized variant with a redesigned bolt that's much shorter than the original, the rear sight is closer to the shooter's eye, and the magazine is directly in front of the trigger group...

I happen to like the K31 with the darker wood myself, looks more authentic.












Sorry man I couldn’t resist. They do look very similar, so I wouldn’t sweat small stuff. If the average person is not as knowledgeable as you, then pity them, don't take offense.
 
The 1911 carbine is a true Schmidt-Rubin. I'm not sure about the K-31 but I don't think it is. It has some elements from the S-R's but includes fundamental redesigns. IIRC the K31 barrel is actually longer than the 1911 carbine's.

well, technically the K31 is not a schmidt rubin because that configuration wasn't desinged by Col. Rudolf Schmidt, but by Waffenfabrik Bern...
 
The reason being that most Internet Shooters are new enough to the game that the K31 from the last wave of European surplus is the most common Swiss. The previous wave, back when you could actually have a firearm delivered to your doorstep, the 1911 and earlier S-Rs were all you saw.

Back then, the K31 was a rarity because they were still being used on duty. I remember seeing one advertised for $1200 when a 1911 was under $100.
 
Huh, I never really noticed the action length difference, but probably would notice the magazine difference. Keep in mind, most people just see K31's around now, and they look similar enough due to their bolt style that most people don't realize.
