I have several weapons that are stored in my home , yesterday I looked in my case for my fAL and there was a very light coat of rust, very light building up. I have seen it before on my SAR and on my bolt action. So yesterday and from now own, I will wipe them all down with a light coat of hoppes lubricating oil but they are all stored in daskil plastic cases. What could I be doing wrong, or will the light oil wipe down cure it? Im in WA state will humidity matter at this time of year?

I don't store anything in a case. The "egg crate foam" can store
moisture. For a day or two,for transport it's fine,6 months and your
asking for trouble.
Now if you put it in one of the silicon "gun socks" then put it in the
storage case, you will have better results.
Good luck.

I've never had rust issues in WA, but most of my firearms are parkerized or coated in some manner to slow down oxidation.

If you use storage cases, try small rechargeable desiccant devices or liberal rust preventative. Some lubes don't necessarily have anti-rusting properties.

I keep a cheapo bolt gun in a silicone gun sock, inside a plastic case in my car - it still rusted BAD in 4 months time.

Gun cases are not for storing guns, only transporting them - thats your first problem.

Remedy that one and a light wipe of oil once a year will be sufficient.....

Yeah what everyone else said. I also heard the egg crate foam can trap moisture, so you should only use plastic cases with foam for short term storage like transporting and bringing to the range, etc.

I keep all my guns in a gun cabinet and wipe them down with oil occasionally. Havnt had any problems, even with humid summers.

You can keep them inside foam lined cases if you put a bunch of desiccant packs in the case. I have been keeping my Weatherby rifle in a case for a good two years and not a spec of rust on it.

second the dessicant. we ran out of room in the cabnet, so my shotgun and 10/22 are in cases. i havn't had any problems. i check them every month or so and keep track of recharging the dessicant.

I keep three five pound containers of dessicant in my safe, keep all weapons wiped down and reoiled twice a year and when I'm doing that, the dessicant goes into the oven in the kitchen at 350 degrees for a couple of hours then overnight at 225 degrees. Here in southern Oregon we do get a bit of moisture now and then.:)

Desiccant packs are your friend when storing weapons in plastic or metal cases. ;)

Swap out old packs for new ones at regular intervals, and you should have no problems.
