I have a question for those of you with SHTF guns.

Gentlemen,
I carry my sidearam .1911 with one mag in the gun and 2 mags on the other side to keep me balanced. I also carry a small flashlight. I carry in the house. Just think if you get into a SHTF and your in the "head" when "they" break in. Also need the loadout with me in case I am away from the house. One of my friends last summer, I was is shorts an shirt, ask me where was my loadout. I show him as I open my newspaper that was under my arm.
Just my .02 cents worth.
Thanks again
Clancy
ps hard part is to pick out the zombies from the standard people in todays world.

I keep six 20 round mags loaded, four with 165gr ballistic tips and two with 155gr Custom Comp rounds. Take a look at my handywork with the ballistic tips.

Dr Rob sez..

Don't know what to put in the grenade pouches permanently attached to the vest.

uh....grenades??? Seems like the perfect answer....:D

Might have a little trouble finding a working model but, hey...

oh, yeah. Back to the topic at hand. I feel like a total lightweight. A 12 gauge loaded with "00" (soon to be replaced with a SP-10 10 gauge with 3 1/2" 4 buck, 54 pellets each)

AR with 30 rounds, SKS 2x30. Assorted 1911's. And a G20 with an M6 and 2x10 of 10mm

Don't know what to put in the grenade pouches permanently attached to teh vest.

Empty Copenhagen can, quarter roll of electrical tape, MRE toilet paper, one mini-bottle of Tabasco, some dirt, and a wad of ratty 550 cord. At least that's what's in mine. :D

I keep 4 loaded M1A mags in the side pockets of a surplus East Northern Czechoslojikistan backpack I got from Cheaper than Dirt that I use for a range bag. There's also a loaded mag in the locker with the rifle.

There are two loaded Mini-14 mags and four loaded AR mags in the ammo locker, one loaded Mossberg 500 and two loaded 1911's (his and hers) in the bedroom, and one loaded Glock 17 in a Kydex holster screwed to the underside of the desk (leftover from living in a MUCH rougher neighborhood).

Now that I list it all out, I feel kinda paranoid...'scuse me, gotta go walk the perimeter.

Yea, I really need to move. That's the only thing wrong with this town... all the damn zombies. :(

you could put punch grenades (oc) or smoke grenades in there but dressings are more useful, i think.

if you are preparing to make holes, you better be ready to fix holes because you never know when you or someone you care about will aquire an extra one.

At least you're getting a lot of pratice before the real apocalypse.

7 30rnd AK mags loaded and 500 loose rounds in a backpack. 2 9mm CZ P01 mags loaded, and another 200rnds in my backpack. Now I just need grenades..and more pistol mags.

I don't own a tactical vest, but I have one of those Samco magazine clamps/couplers and a Blackhawk buttstock magpouch for my AR (both of which I rarely use - but are nice to have) So if I had to, I could carry 3 mags with the rifle without strapping on a vest or wearing a belt pouch.

Sometimes I think I might be paranoid thinking about this stuff too much, but I have all these guns I have collected, I would hate for them to be useless when/if I really need them even if it is unlikely. My self defense goto gun is a lever .357 or shotgun, not the clip fed semi-autos.

I always like reading these kind of threads. Everyone, well almost everyone, has some creative input and one could learn a lot. My personal SHTF weapon (please, no snickers) is a Mossburg Plinkster 702 .22LR semi auto. I'm very comfortable with it and it is pretty accurate out to about a hundred yards or so. It is very light to carry around as it has a synthetic stock. The Bushnell 3-9X32 scope works well with it. The only down side to this being a SHTF rifle is the 10 rd mag. I wish I could find a mag that holds at least 30 rds.

Hey, that is the most important ingredient. You need to use a gun you are comfortable with and that you have confidence in its accuracy. If you have multiple guns that you feel that way about, then you can get into all the other debates. :)

The only thing that would make your guns useless, lack of ammo not withstanding, is if you become useless (so to speak).

If you practice enough so that your body can operate your weapon of choice while your brain is freaking out, your weapon will not be useless.

Also, there is nothing wrong with a .357 levergun or shotgun. As long as you understand each's limitations and practice to overcome those limitations (such as reload time, range, etc)

No weapon, gear, or amount of ammo will be worth anything if you go into brain-lock a the worst possible moment.

Pick what works for you and practice, practice, practice.
