So just having gotten my new Beretta Storm I ordered two 15 round 9mm mags off gunbroker last week and just received them today. After looking at the mags I'm wondering if they are really .40 cal mags that have had their lips crimped slightly. The one mag BARELY holds the 9mm round in as you can just push up on the nose of the bullet and it'll move up through the lips. This one at least locks the slide back on empty though. The second one, while it does hold the rounds in tighter does not lock the slide open on empty. Both of the mags sound like freakin maraccas if you shake them as you can hear all the rounds moving around inside them. I checked them both and they DO feed all 15 rounds through the rifle cycling it manually so I'm not so sure what the deal is.

Maybe the old adage you get what you pay for is in effect here as 2 hi caps for 33 bucks shipped did seem a bit too good to be true. :banghead:

Nope no scratch marks.....I just was able to squeeze the lips together with my fingers on the first one and now it's holding the rounds tighter.

I'll probably just keep the things since they DO work and for 15 bucks a pop I doubt I'll find much better until the ban sunsets. But still kinda ticks me off. :cuss:

The whole "you get what you pay for" is almost always true. If they work for general plinking I wouldn't sweat it. I bought some after market Beretta mag from CDNN they were 17 rounders and they were super cheap. Like $11.99 IIRC you might want to check them out.

Well I would have liked to have the 17 rounders and maybe even a 30 or two....but unfortunately in my commie state anything over 15 is illegal. :banghead: Which could also pose another problem because I checked and I can actually squeeze in 16 rounds in these mags if I wanted. Thought I doubt anybody would actually be like "HEY lemme see if i can stick an extra round in those mags!"

What are the markings on the mags? They should have a caliber designation and marked with the country of origin - USA or Italy for true Beretta mags. Many will also have the military "assy" number. If these are not present, you may have bought after market mags such as USA or other no-name mags which will probably be of dubious quality and reliability.

I would expect you to have a tough time pushing the feed lips together with your fingers on genuine Beretta or MecGar magazines unless you have unusually strong fingers...

There's no markings at ALL on the mags ANYWHERE. It's all just plain steel, there aren't even any holes in the back to see how many rounds are remaining. :uhoh:

If you have patience, you can find real (factory/mil. contract) 15 rounders for about $25-30 each if you don't mind a rough finish. $35 seems to be the standard "deal" price. Anything over that...well....

I've been in alot of magazine deals and the only people who ripped me off were Kurt Krasne of Triple K who sold me some LEO magazines that were supposed to be preban 15 round Mec-Gars for a B92. Also, the guy who goes by "RedDog" I believe on gunbroker who sold me "new preban Mec-Gars" that actually turned out to be crap USA mags after confirming with him 3 times through email that they actually were Mec-Gars and marked as such.

Of course I don't have those LEO magazines anymore, as I turned them into the proper authorities. Or did I bury them in the desert next to my Hi-Point? I can't recall. :D

Son of a B****! I think that explains it then:

Looks like it might not even matter anyway and I'll get the last laugh! Was just on Beretta's website and stumbled upon this:

Hi Cap Mag Giveaway

Can't ask for much more than that. So for anyone else who has bought a Storm or 92/96 Pistol let's keep hoping that the AWB sunsets!!
:D :D

My 96fs has been trying to convince me to buy it a Storm so it will have a playmate.

And now they have this cool 'Free Hi-Caps if the Ban Sunsets' deal going.

Good thing I'm broke and behind on bills right now, eh? :(

Why didn't you ask about this here BEFORE you bought crap?

Probably because he believed the "A+" rating at gunbroker.com and the lack of negative feedback.

What he didn't know was...that gunbroker.com looks out for the dealers and NOT the buyers. Any question between the two always goes to the dealers...and it is not unknown for negative feedback to be deleted by gunbroker.com's IT gnomes.

As a general rule, I do not use gunbroker.com because it is such a whore for its dealers.

I've been thinking about buying some hi-caps for my 92 from Cabela's, they have some pretty decent prices in their shooting catalog. I've always heard good things about their customer service. Maybe that is a viable option for you in the future.
