I have been thinking about a Pig gun....

I've taken Russian boar with the following:

Sauer 202 Safari .375 H&H, Federal 300 grain Nosler Partitian (100ish yards)
TC Arms Encore .444 Marlin, Remington 260 grain round nose (17ish yards)
TC Arms Encore .45-70 Gov't Remington 350 grain hollow point (20ish yards)
Colt WWI Reproduction .45 ACP, 230 grain hollow point (5ish yards...literally far side of a pine tree)

I have seen hogs taken with the following:

Weatherby Mark V .270 Win, Winchester 140 grain trophy bonded (50ish yards)
Winchester M94, 170 grain round nose (30ish yards)

I have never seen such a fast drop as what I have witnessed out of a .444 Marlin, and a .45-70 Gov't. And that was through a 15" pistol barrel. The .270 Win came in about third place of those listed. The .375 H&H was a poorer performer than I had anticipated. I actually have that hunt on video. Two solid hits (heart/lungs) and that hog ran off 200+ yards, and stood swaying for about 3 minutes before it collapsed. And the .45 ACP is one I would never recommend. The .30-30 Win worked plenty well.

In terms of platform, I liked the Encore pistol, with barrels chambered in .444 Marlin and .45-70 Gov't. Choose which you will, but these dropped hogs dead, right quick. I have always wanted to buy a Marlin Guide Gun in .444 or .45-70 Gov't. The other option I would like to try is a M870 12 gauge, with a rifled barrel and buckhammer slugs.

Cool thread! Thanks for starting it.
