I just can't afford it. Considering an alternative.

Buying another pistol is pretty much out of the question after pricing engagement rings last weekend for an upcomming proposal to my girlfriend of five years. Also the fact that we're haveing a little girl in august puts a finacial damper on things. Not that that is a bad thing but, I need to start prepairing for that too and not blowing 400.00 on another gun. I wanted to add a .357 to my carry line up which currently consist of a 642 and a G26. I currently own a .357 Ruger GP100 4in HB in the target grey finish that I keep in a lock box underneath the bed. I figure that that is as good as anything with the right holster. Question is is which holster? It will be an occasional carry gun. The weight of the gun isn't too much of an issue neither are the stock full sized grips. The right holster with the right cant will keep it where it needs to be. I'm leaning towards a Tucker IWB for the revolver but am curious about pancake holster as well. I really don't have any experience with them and wonder how well would they conceal a 4in 6-shot revolver compaired to a good IWB. I'm also considering how easy the 4in bbl. could possibly show from underneath a T-shirt with the Pancake as compaired the IWB. Who of you are carrying a 4in revolver and what kinds of rigs are you using of have used in the past?

Thanks, Robert.

My 4 inch 629 rides very, very well in a Kramer holster as sold by Dillon. I'd figure that they have one like it for the GP100.

I sometimes carry a 4" model 66--that is, a k-frame, a bit smaller than your ruger--in a pancake from Dillon, called their 'master.' If you decide to go with a pancake, this is a well made holster for a reasonable price.

However, you might find yourself singing a different song about those full-size factory grips if you try high and tight OWB carry; a big grip will stick in your ribs and out your shirt. I have a boot-grip on mine, and really like carrying and shooting it. I can conceal it under a big t-shirt reasonably well. Obviously, it will stick down farther than an IWB, but the bottom of the holster is just about level with the top of the back pocket of my jeans, which is not so low. For me to carry this gun IWB, I'd either have to buy all new pants or lose 30 lbs. Neither of those is gonna happen real soon.

Nice to see your priorities are straight, and good luck with the wife and baby.

I'll have to check them out.

I'm kinda torn between IWB and Pancake. I have looked all over on the net and found a good place that offers a nice looking and apparently good quality pancake holster called the pancake-II at www.gun-holsters.com for 50.00 shipped. That looks to be a great deal. Looking at the design, the belt loop are set to where the holster rides high and will help bring up the muzzle to keep it from poking out from underneath the shirt. But when weighing the options, there is no worry of that with an IWB. Maybe I'll get both:neener: .

Robert.

When I carry a 4 inch, I carry a S&W mod. 19 in a Sparks Summer Special. As far as I am concerned, there is no better IWB holster made.

That's a fairly heavy gun to pack but it can be done. You just need to accept you'll have to buck up for a good leather holster. Plan on a minimum of 50 bucks(Galco or Don Hume).

You would be best served by going the 150 buck route through Kramer, Allesi, etc., though.

When you're going to carry a gun of that size you just can't skimp on the rig or belt.

It's like a marriage:
1. Expensive.
2. Do it once.
3. Do it right.

I can second the recommendation for Gunners Alley. I just received a Fist #12 Basic holster for my SP101 that I ordered from them. The holster is extremely well made, and very comfortable to wear all day. I have several holsters by Bianchi, Galco and Don Hume, and the Fist beats them all. And the price was very reasonable.

Well, I think I made my choice

I've looked at alot of holsters both IWB abd OWB. I think I'm going to go with a Fist #20 adjustable IWB from gunners alley.http://www.gunnersalley.com/product/FIST20ADJUSTABLE
I pretty much has all of the design points I'm looking for to include; the dual attachment points that are spread out to the side other that on top og the gun, it is made of leather and it is adjustable. I can adjust the cant but I can also set the holster to ride as high as possible to help clear the cylinder from underneath the belt line. I'm also going to order a Fist gun belt. I want this think to be secure on my belt and not shift around too much if at all.

Thanks, Robert.

These days, having an option to "tuck" the gun and holster under your shirt is a good thing. Not everyone can wear their shirt hanging out.
