I just installed $90 nightsights on my 1911...

Lol that's not a bad idea and I could afford it!

Actually thinking about painting the front sight on the kimber, it can be hard to pick up that dark front sight at the range.

Did you make the circle shapes yourself? How did you get them so...round and perfect? Would like to do this myself on my Kimber as the front/rear sights are all black.

I've used some paint that I purchased from "Glow Inc." on sights before. Seriously the brightest glow in the dark paint I've personally seen.

http://glowinc.com/SearchResult.aspx?CategoryID=11 I went for the "V10" green. A couple seconds in front of a flashlight gives a nice glow for around 7 hours for me.

That seems like it would actually be useful. Put it under the light before you go out or go to bed. Even if you're out for more than 7 hours, a quick trip to the restroom would take care of it.

I wonder how long the ability to take on a glow lasts before the paint needs to be replaced.

The dots were already recessed into the sights. All I did was fill them and cleared any excess with the edge of an index card.

Will find out. but seriously. At $1.50 a for a decent sized bottle, I'm pretty sure I can replace them numerous times over several years :D

Ogreon, I last painted the sights on my m&p over 2 years ago. They still glow as bright, and just as long as the day I did it. The glow starts out rather bright, then as hours pass, they do dim.
It has been a decent option for me personally, but I still would much rather have actual night sights on my firearm. Reasons being that the brightness would be constant, not bright then gradually dimming, and not having to worry about "recharging" the paint.
