...I am in love with the pistol! I have never shot one before, but I was impressed with the feel, accuracy and design of the pistol. Most other .40's I've shot have been uncomfortable to shoot, but the Sig was a blast.

I only shot about three magazines through it but it was the opposite of what I expected. It did not look like it would be comfortable to shoot, but the function and feel were great. It also digested some of my friend's reloads that weren't cycling or feeding in an H&K or Steyr.

The only drawback? Now I'm in love with another pistol. Who else loves them out there?
 
Try it in 357SIG and you'll be hooked for good. The biggest bonus is that you can just buy a barrel for $130 and shoot both calibers. :)
 
I was surprised by my 229 (9mm) also. It just felt right in my hand and is one of the most accurate 9's I have. I was surprised because I was not too fond of my first Sig (a 239). It just didn't fit me right. My dad has a ..40 he's been trying to sell me. Maybe I'll take him up on it.
 
I've had my 229 in .40 for several years now and it, IMHO, is the ultimate .40 caliber pistol. I'm always amazed at the accuracy and ease with which I can shoot it. By far one of my favorite guns.
 
I bought a 229 with a durable finish. Slide and frame are finished in Brushed nickel. Looks like matte stainless but slightly warmer looking in color. At the time it was offered it was available on the 229, 220,, but few were made, and I have never seen another for sale.
 
If I were to get one, I'd have to get a 9mm. What do they run new? I'm assuming hicaps are through the roof for them, for that matter I know so little about the pistol I'm not even sure that it was made before 1994.

This really goes to show the old "you can't judge a book by its cover" addage in regards to firearms. I've seen Sig pistols several times over the years and ignored them, primarily because their aesthetics didn't match what I figured they should be. This is kind of funny as in retrospect I've shot and enjoyed Glocks, 1911s, Berettas and several other pistols of different designs which are significantly different in terms of design.

Oh well, the only bad part is I'll be looking to buy one in the future.
 
If you're looking for 9mm, you might want to keep an eye out for the P228. Same gun, except for the slide. I think the P228 has better balance but I really like the P229 as well, and it should be sturdier. In the Northeast, a new P229 can run anywhere from $650 to $750.

Now, if you really want to go crazy, get a P229 with .40 and .357 barrels, and add mags and a barrel for the 9mm. Three in one.

The 228/229 aren't crazy-wide, but if she has trouble with them, then the single-stack 225/239 would probably work just fine.
 
I agree. Last night i was cleaning mine and marveling at the design and engineering that went into the gun. It is so sturdy.

At the range I find it to be 100% reliable and extremely accurate for a short bbl gun.

My P229 Mini-Range Report

I bought a used P229 .40, and ordered and installed the short trigger. For a used gun, it is in great shape. It came pretty well packed with grease, so a thorough cleaning and re-lube was needed.

I finally made it out to the range and got to shoot it last Saturday. (Been working a lot, lately.) I brought a variety of ammo -- Winchester 155 gr. FMJ ball, Federal 165 gr. FMJ truncated cone, Blazer 180 FMJ ball, CorBon 180 gr. HP, and 180 gr. plated (West Coast) truncated cone reloads -- and it all went "BANG" without a hitch. And, I used both the factory mags, and the two ProMag magazines. Sweet!

I may have a new favorite gun for shooting. Easy to acquire sight alignment, comfortable to shoot, nice, tight groups. For some reason, the CorBons shoot a couple inches higher than most of the others, but all shot to the horizontal center, varying vertically. Not bad for $435. (Not including the extra mags and short trigger...)
