I know, more novice questions about home defense 870s. "Search the archives." I did, and found a bunch about front sight/ghost ring setups, but that's not quite what I'm looking for here. (And for that matter, what's up with sights you have to epoxy onto your gun? Are we building Revell plastic hot rod models here? ;))

Anyway, I'm trying not to overdo the accessories on my 18" 870 Exp Magnum. So far, just a Wilson ammo sidesaddle and a simple sling. But I want to add one more accessory: A front sight that glows in the dark. No desire for a ghost ring or, indeed, a rear sight. I'm not going to use this gun to launch slugs at aggressors at 75 yards, just for short-range home D and the occasional session of informal clay shooting.

Thus my Q: Does anyone make a standalone tritium front sight for an 870 that installs securely in place of the stock bead?

Remember seeing a product that seemed to fit the bill -- round tritium dot front sight insert by X/S Sight Systems, pictured in a recent Clint Smith article on HD shotguns. Anyone have experience with these? Like them? Know where can I order 'em?

Many thanks.

EDIT: Fixed misspelling.

I put mine on about 3 yrs ago . It's threaded and if I recall correctly it's a 6-48 thread .

That's the way I went as well.

Installed this one earlier in the summer. I like it a lot. The tritium vial is suspended in a clear material so it's almost like a fibre optic in daylight. At night, I pick it up very easy and works well with my weapon light.
