"Uncle Roger"

74 years young,

What else is there to elaborate on? I've never had the opportunity to ask him about his history. Some day I will.

I thought you couldn't call them "Ex" Marines but "Former" was acceptable.

"There are only two kinds of people that know about Marines. Marines, and the enemy. Everyone else has a second hand opinion." - Chesty Puller :D

'Former" works for me. Of course at the Saturday morning ConTact shoots I am "That Jarhead", but considering it is coming from a retired SEAL I let him get away with it :D

The 'squid' and I get along well and the rest of the crew seem to enjoy the banter. I enjoy the times I can best him by a few tenths of a second....doesn't happen much, but more often than it used to. :neener:

Well, what about that freak who shot up some cops with an SKS, or the one fled the country?

I think "former" can be used applicably in those instances.

Yes,

unfortunately there are bad apples no matter where you look, even in the Marines.

Funny, Uncle Roger and Uncle Bill were brothers in law, Uncle Bill was a former "squid" (just like me) and the banter did fly when they were together, especially after a couple of pops. They would have me in stitches. Turns out Uncle Bill served on the New Jersey during the Korean "Conflict". Sadly we lost Uncle Bill over the weekend.

:(

Bummer 280PLUS, my condolences.

My best friend in the Corp made a career of it, dragged the family around the world for 25 years. Upon retirement he told his wife that, since she had gone where required, when needed, she could choose the place to settle down. Ended up in Michigan ( colder than here :what: )

Long story short I never got to see him with hair and a beard…..a drunk driver knocked him out of his boots while he was walking on the side of the road (car broke down).

Like my wife says….. plan for tomorrow, live for today.

If you go to the official USMC Website and poke around a bit

I think you'll find (I seem to recall) a discussion on the subject "former Marine" vs. "ex-Marine." I think that they recount a discussion, in a bar somewhere, between two very senior Sergeants.

sks shooter

That stunted slime ,just like those embasy guards in the 80s,dippin the wick in exchange for intel. burns my azz up,any Marine would love to settle up with those who betray them. they aint ,are ,were,or former, just players and imposters,...Marines need no help in dealing with stuff like this. Glad the coppers nailed him.

I went to the USMC website and looked around but couldn't find anything. Then I felt like I better get out of there quick before I signed up. Man they're GOOD!

Yah, sorry, 280,

Right after I wrote the above, I went over and looked, myself. Seems they've "updated" the site with all of the "latest features."

The Marines have always dragged their feet when it came to implementing the latest Govt. silliness, but I guess that even they had to give in on that one.

Hell, it might be on one of the unofficial affiliate sites.

I'd take my oath that the story was on the Web *somewhere* a coupla months ago.

not a problem ortho,

I figure the Marines woulda been all over my case by now if I commited any dreaded "faux pas"

;)
