A group pic of my 4 hard chromed guns :) - As U can tell, it is an addiction :)

My HK USPc is my latest one. Got it back last week :)

I like the two tone black and silver look (must of watched too many Raiders games in my youth :) ) but I'm not married to hard chrome. Stainless and electroless nickel works as well for me.

I must admit that I'm a big fan of hard chrome, too...

I have a number of guns that I've had hard chromed by Armoloy (Fort Worth) and Metalife Industries back in the days when it didn't cost as much as the entire initial cost of the gun to ship the gun back and forth to the chromer...

After decades, the guns still look new...

:)

Yes - it used to be much cheaper to ship guns, unfortunately. But shipping slides - U can do that for $5 thru the post office - just can't be the frame.

Shipwreck, very nice. I'm having a 1911 done in hard chrome, but I'm going opposite of your preferred color scheme (with polymer, I guess it's your only choice). Nice pistolas.

I have a Para Ordnance P-16 (.40 S&W) and a Colt Officers model in hard chrome. I do, indeed, like they way they look. However, I like even better, the way they do not wear, the ease with which they clean up and the slickness which causes them to not need much lube.

Hard chrome is the 'bees knees'.

Nice... but now I'm left wondering how the P99 would look if the whole gun was hard-chromed. Very interesting thought.

Not possible - as the frame of the gun is polymer - I suppose you could duracoat it to match - but I like it as is :)

Is it possible to get hard chrome to the high polish that nickle usually attains? I like the wear resistance, but am not that keen on matte finish anything.

Hard chrome will wear over time, like anything else. It will last a lot longer than blue or park, and some others. It can also rust if you degrease and dont re-oil, or sweat heavily on it.

This is my old Commander. It started out a nice Colt blue and was hard chromed after about a year in a couple of leather holsters. The blue could not hold off the rust anymore and it was starting to pit pretty bad. What you see here is about 10 years of daily carry, mostly in a Blade Tech kydex holster. I gave up on leather about the same time as the chrome job. The black streaks are actually bright, mirror polished chrome. Even with daily wipe downs, especially in the summer, I would still get some minor, light rusting, mostly around the safety and under the grips. This is the only area the holster didnt protect. It wasnt a heavy rust, but more of a light dusting that usually wiped right away, but some of the heavier didnt, and you can see some by the safety by the grip.

Well, you can get a polished look - but then, as anything polished - slight wear might show over the years quicker than matte.

I guess google "hard chrome" and find the various vendors who do it - they may have other pics.

Hey Shipwreck, who did all your hard chrome and how much may I ask? My wife wants to do this to her pt111.

Tripp Research did it - and his latest price was $117 with return shipping and TX sales tax.

I love NP3!

Yeah, it's not as hard as well applied chrome, but it fairly tough and has amazing lubricity from the teflon in the mix. It's a more subdued gray than even matte chrome, which is another reason I prefer it.

I have my carry 1911A1 down at Robar now and when it comes back, my Ruger GP-100 "Revo for Armageddon" goes in for the full plating job so that a millennia from now, mutant cockroaches can pack heat.

Pics as they arrive.

Yes - that is my pic - but I no longer have the Glock - sorry - I sold it about 3 months ago - I was gonna use the cash to buy an AR - instead, I bought a Buckmark 22, 3 extra PS90 mags and about 1200 rounds of 5.7 - sorry :p

Here is the most recent pic:

In order of like, I like Python Royal Blue, followed by S&W Nickle, and then hard chrome......but I don't have to baby the hard chrome like the other two.

U must be dreaming dude :p

S&W services the P99s here in the US, and their customer service is fantastic. If that is what holding you back, don't let it. I think you have been listening to the wrong stories. Go check out the Walther forum:
