I was browsing the news tonight and came upon this article.

http://desmoinesregister.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20070418/OPINION01/704180338/1035/OPINION

There were some parts of this article that surprised me.

The state of Virginia allows people to buy up to one handgun a month without a background check...

Then what was that extra $5 for I paid at the gun shop:rolleyes: .

You can carry a concealed weapon after passing a background check...

Don't forget that safety class you have to take. But I doubt the writer wanted to put the words "safety" and "firearms" in the same sentence.

Virginia law doesn't even prevent taking a gun on campus, though Virginia Tech policy requires all guns to be checked with campus police.

I was under the impression that Virginia law had been changed to deny guns on any college campus.

I find it disturbing that the media is making up such lies about gun laws in my home state. :fire:

UP TO one handgun. So you can get less than one handgun as many times per month as you wish???

And I find it humorous not that the writer believes that firearms are to be checked with campus police but that maybe the shooter would have obeyed the supposed rule. Would he have obeyed a law? I doubt it.

And if you have a CWP the 1 a month limit does not apply.

The rule against carry on the VT campus is a school rule, not a state law.
The school is solely responsible for this rule, and is flouting the state law.
An attempt to force them to comply failed in committee.

the school spokesman was glad for the defeat in committee since everyone would "feel safer".
