I have some sort of point to prove-- or I don't value my life much :p But I am proceeding on a AR15 .22LR build using dubious parts.... My lower is going to be one of these--

and my upper is going to be one of these

So for about the price of a S&W15-22 I will end up with something of a wierd mix of a Blackthorne (nee Vulcan/Hesse) on a PlumCrazy (POI?) poly lower-- and by poly I mean everything but the springs I think are plastic-- I will be sure to post picts and a range report once done, and hopefully not an obituary..

What is wrong with me?!?!?:what:

Using one of those polymer lowers on a dedicated .22lr build actually makes sense...

I'll look forward to the range report.

This is the first I've heard of a polymer lower.

Kinda cool and obviously a big price advantage - anybody used 'em in a regular 5.56 build?

Cavalry Arms makes Poly lowers and I hear good things about them-- Vulcan used to make some but I think they were pretty shoddy-- Of course Bushmaster (and others I think) made some Carbon Fiber ones -- This one looks neat, not sure if it will work out, but I am going to give it a go-- at worst, I am out a hundred bucks, at best, I will have a lightweight .22 AR..I am less worried about the Blackthorne Upper-- A local guy just got in a bunch of them in 5.56, and they don't look half bad-- I am sure if I end up not liking it, I can get what I put into it if I cart it to the gunshow and sell it FTF...

Well, I've heard of the Cav Arms lowers, but I was referring to stripped lowers only - IMO the Cav Arms are just butt-ugly, and the inability to ever change out the grip or buttstock is a huge drawback for me...

I would think long and hard about using a Blackthorne anything. Check out ar15.com or m4carbine.net. Blackthorne (Vulcan / Hesse) seems to have the absolute worst reputation of any AR manufacturer ever. Even if it works out on a .22 build, I just couldn't bring myself to use any of their products just on principle.

Yeah-- I am leery too, but I can't justify putting an expensive upper on it-- Like I said, I may assemble it, shoot it, then sell it for "close" to what I paid for it-- I know BT are near the bottom of the AR world, but I am building the SNS of ARs-- as Jennings is out of business, and the ROF guns pretty much going away, I will have to settle for the next best thing... 8*)
