About the 6906 having an allow frame---- excellent observation.
I owned a 5906 for a while, a heavy but very cool beast, and knew that the 6906 seemed to be preferred because of the reduced weight in the 6906 alloy frame.
Going from my old 5906 to the 908 (basically a single-stack 3914 version) -- the lightest of these S&W series -- is quite a contrast.
And for what it's worth, my new 6904 seems almost as light, despite being a double-stack compact, and is much more like an enhanced 908 than any possible resemblance to the longer/much heavier 5906.
