I always said ARs are not for me ;) ...

Well I found myself at my FFL today because he got in a couple new rifles. He had mentioned a while ago that he was on the shortlist to get some Bushmaster AR's so I said heck it will be tax time so give me a call when you get them. Lately I have been thinking about getting a basic AR with a heavy barrel and just keeping it as my iron sight target rifle. Well he got 3 bushmasters in. One was the ban state M4 clone, a varmint/hunting rifle (the real tree remington model) and a target model with a 24" 1:9 heavy barrel (PCWA3S-24).

I really did not have an interest in the camo model or the "post ban" M4 clone. So i decided to go with the target model. Funny I never really seriously considered an AR before but what the heck you only live once. It was more expensive than I ever would have considered paying for an AR but I figured I could wait until after the summer to see if the prices will significantly drop or just spend it while I got it (and the wife approves of it). On to the price, $1100 out the door (and that was the cash price) that is just what AR's cost around here and that was cheaper than the Buffalo Gun Center price.

So anyways I know Bushmaster is not on the top of many AR lists but now I have an extra $500 to buy some stuff for the wife to offset the purchase. Actually comparing the Bushmaster to my FFL's Colt target model it stood up pretty well. Also the 24" barrel is a bit long but I figure I can always cut it down if I find it barrel heavy. Now the M1A has competition for range time. I will report back after I shoot the rifle. Here are a couple pics:

That's a great rifle!

Not sure what you mean about bushies not being on the top of anyone's list...well actually I do but it doesn't apply to me.

My favorite AR is a Bushmaster CMP competition I bought when I started shooting NRA highpower. It's a great shooter and it'll still do better out to 600 yards than I can!

Personally I think Bushmasters offer a lot of bang for the buck a little less so these days but still I am impressed with this rifle so far. Now I just need to see how it shoots. Also I vow not to add any accessories to this rifle besides a good leather sling.

vows like that are easily broken. Don't chop any of that barrel off until you shoot 2000 rounds through it and then try a 16" barrel on another gun. You will find that the barrel makes a difference.

I also own a Bushmaster and have been absolutely thrilled with it. No jams or problems (except for once it did bind up when I rode the charging handle forward-rookie mistake:banghead:). I have also shot Colt and Rock River AR models and aside from a marginally smoother trigger I have not noticed any difference.
